Letter from the Editor.. We are so excited about this month’s issue. We are featuring some really great businesses. Because March is Rodeo time in Houston we felt it was fitting to feature great BBQ, western fashion and dÊcor and three of the top Dancehalls and Saloons in the area. We are growing our readers day by day and have just hired two great sales people for advertising. Everything is really coming together. We have many exciting surprises coming over the next few months. About the Editor: I have over 24 years experience in the restaurant industry. I held various positions for several Atlanta food distributors. I also owned and operated 3 restaurants in the Atlanta area. I have done catering, party and event planning. Corkscrew BBQ

Corkscrew BBQ is a wonderful and unique BBQ establishment located off Sawdust Road in The Woodlands. The owners are a husband and wife team Will and Nichole Buckman. Will and Nichole started their business catering local events and celebrations about five years ago. Guests at their catering events loved their food so much they begged them to open a restaurant. They didn’t want to wait until the next event to get their hands on the wonderful food. In the Fall of 2011, Will and Nichole decided to take their customer’s suggestions and they opened a location at 24930 Budde Road. They didn’t want to jump into a full restaurant at the beginning because they have a strong belief in not accruing any debt on the business. Food is of course the driving force of Corkscrew BBQ. All the meats are cooked for 8 – 12 hours. They are known for their pork tacos, brisket and ribs and chicken. Oh, and don’t forget dessert.

The menu is chocked full of great items. They carry seven different sandwiches. Sandwiches range from brisket, to pork, to sausage. Their plates include choices of meats, a sampler plate and also chicken and ribs. They also serve stuffed baked potatoes and spinach salads. They carry three sides: potato salad, baked beans and coleslaw. Follow up a great meal with a made fresh daily cobbler. Giving back to the community is very important to the Corkscrew BBQ. They work with Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, Project Hero, Strut for Cancer and also sponsor local sports teams. Looking to the future, Will and Nichole, would like to eventually open an event facility with a restaurant, but for now, their short-term goals are to get an awning to cover their outside tables and add another building for preparing the meats. Corkscrew BBQ makes everything fresh daily. They open at 11:00 AM Tuesday – Saturday and stay open until they sell out. So make sure to get there early or call ahead and place your order.

Mama J’s BBQ & Grill

Mama J’s BBQ and Grill is located off of Rt. 242 on College Park Drive in The Woodlands area. This is a new restaurant, open only a few months. However, the owners are not new to BBQ. They have been catering for three years. Mama J’s is known for their super moist and tender brisket and their side items. All of their side items and desserts are homemade . They have seven different sides available each day . They also have two cobblers and yummy banana pudding. Mama J’s still offers catering. They cater events from 2 to 2000 people. They are also very active in the community. For three years in a row they have provided BBQ sandwiches for Walkers for Leukemia and also provided the food for the Senior Ball yearly function at the Friendship Center. Future plans include working with the JR Olympics and Kentucky Derby. If you are looking for a place to go for Happy Hour before dinner, they have it daily from 4-7 PM , featuring discounted beers..

They offer the following meats: brisket, sausage, chicken, rids and pulled pork. Sides available: cheesey potatoes, potato salad, green beans, pinto beans, cole slaw, broccoli salad and corn. They also offer baked potatoes, salads, soups and kids meals. They have six different sandwiches as well as two burgers. Don’t forget to call ahead for catering and to go orders. Gretchen Franklin has known for years that she wanted to have her own boutique. She came up with the name of her boutique The Rustic Princess years before opening. Gretchen is very artistic. She loves to paint and design things for the boutique. Not all items at the boutique are handmade. Some are items she has brought in and some are items she sells on consignment. She has clothes, accessories, jewelry, wall art, and other dĂŠcor.

The Rustic Princess is located in Downtown Tomball on Commerce Street. When you walk up to the building you see very cute and colorful signs. The actual boutique is located upstairs. Upon entering you see all of the displays of jewelry, clothes and dĂŠcor. Gretchen makes a lot of custom signs for your walls. They are all hand painted. See some of the different signs below.

Sticky Ribs BBQ & Rib Company is located in Conroe, TX. They began as a cook-off team called: “Texas Pit Barbeque.” The focus of these cook-offs was ribs. The team has competed and won competitions all over the country. The Pit Master and owner of Sticky Ribs is Ron Conaway. He has over twenty years experience. His ribs and sauce have won awards all over the BBQ Rib Circuit. The menu is very diverse and of course the highlight is “The Ribs.” They also serve brisket, sausage, chicken, pulled pork, and smoked BBQ ham. They serve salads, sandwiches and burgers. The restaurant has a very affordable children’s menu and a good array of desserts. If you happen to fall in love with their sauce and want to use it at home they sell the sauce by the bottle. And they also have tshirts available for purchase. They have a new Sunday special: ...kids under 12 eat FREE... get your little one a free kids meal and a free ICE CREAM with the purchase of an adult dinner! Branded Western Wear is located on FM2920 in Tomball. It looks a lot bigger on the inside then it does from the outside. The jeans, boots and clothes seemed to go on forever. The store has been open for four years and their biggest sellers are women’s cowboy boots and men’s jeans. The store offers daily specials. They do also have a storefront on eBay. So if you are looking for some good deals on a specific item check out their listings. The owner of Branded Western Wear is very active in FFA and 4-H Clubs. They also sponsor many local events and support local charities.

They have great accessories from flip flops, to belts to purses.

The men’s and women’s clothing have a very nice selection. The prices are very reasonable. Jeans, jeans and more jeans are available for both men and women. If cowboy boots are what you are looking for you have come to the right place. The selection is enormous. The woman’s cowboy boots are absolutely breathtaking. Narrowing it down to just one pair might prove to be very difficult.

The children’s clothes are so cute. They have a wide array of outfits especially for little girls that are just adorable. Most of the fashions for the little girls are adorned with rhinestones. They feature ruffles and bows and western graphics. Branded Western Wear also has cowboy boots for kids. Whether is it your child’s first real pair of boots or an additional pair to go with that new dress they have quite a few to choose from.

Each month we are going to feature two pets that are available for adoption from the Montgomery County Animal Shelter. We cannot guarantee that this specific animal will be available if you decide to try and adopt but they have many wonderful animals to choose from .

"The silly shelter director gave me this name when I came to the shelter a long time ago. Blame her! I'm only about 10 months old and do not even remember when I used to have a home. When the kind folks at Montgomery County Animal Shelter took me in I had already suffered from distemper and was already a survivor. My left leg has a twitch and that is all. I love everybody! Can I come play at your house?" Kitty Kat is a spayed female who weighs about 45 lbs and is very tall. She is friendly with everyone and all at the shelter would love to see her finally find a home. Hi there, I’m Chico and as you can see I’m enjoying this cat tower, which incidentally is where I spend most of my time. You see, I’m more of a sleeper really – and less of an active cat though I have been known to play with toys sometimes. I also spend my days sitting by the window and love a good lap to lie on, too. My foster mom describes me as a love bug and a cuddler and since she carts me around in the car often, I’m totally ok as a car rider. I get along great with other cats and am even friendly with dogs. A perfect gentleman, I am litter box trained and I don’t scratch furniture, except my aforementioned cat tower of course! At 2 years old I am up to date on all of my shots, neutered and FELUK negative. I’m quite perfect really and as a Tuxedo cat, I am always dressed for any occasion, even the most fancy parties!
