Wendy Anderson, Taste Editor, was raised in Upstate New York. She really didn’t ever visit the big pizza chains because there were such good local pizzerias, right on the corner. Pizza Tonight, located in The Woodlands, reminds her of those corner pizzerias. In fact, it is close enough to her house that she can walk over and grab a pizza. Sherrie and Kendall the owners of Pizza Tonight originally hail from Alabama. They both started in the pizza business working for a large restaurant chain. When they moved to Texas they decided to open their own pizza place and make improvements to everything they had learned in their previous roles.

Quality in the number one goal of Pizza Tonight. They use the top mozzarella cheese in the country. They make their dough from scratch daily. The pasta dishes are homemade as well as the salad dressings. The menu has a wide variety of choices. Of course the pizza is the number one pick. They have over 29 different toppings including 6 different cheeses to choose from. They have 11 specialty pizzas available. Pizzas come in four sizes: 8’, 12”, 14” and 16”. You can also choose between hand-tossed and thin-crust. Also on the menu are calzones, subs, pizza rolls, salads, pasta, wings and dessert. Pizza Tonight is open seven days a week. It is family owned and operated. Their son works at the pizza place and is already quite a good pizza maker. Pizza Tonight supports various local charities and sports teams. They are open for lunch and dinner. Pick up and delivery are available.

Taste Magazine supports the mission of The Montgomery County Animal Shelter. Each month we feature available dogs and cats that are waiting to be adopted. Looking for ways to help the shelter? We have a great suggestion. Use their clinic for all your pets. The prices can’t be beat. Here is a price list of their services: Male Neutering for Dogs/Cats - $40 Female Spay for Dogs/Cats - $60 Microchip with Lifetime Registration - $20 Rabies Vaccinations - $10 Canine Parvo & Distemper Vaccinations - $15 Feline FVRCP Vaccination -$15 Heartworm Test - $25 Feline Leukemia Vaccination - $15 Feline Leukemia Test - $30 Another way to help is to donate blankets. This gives the pets something to lay on instead on the hard, cold cement floors.

Patsy’s Authentic Wood Fired Pizza in Tomball Article submitted by: Nick B. Rama from http://diningoutwithnickhouston.com Photography by: John Wade Photography Patsy’s began as a 1940’s mechanic shop/service station that has since been turned in to a quaint restaurant serving an eclectic menu of sandwiches, pasta, salads, homemade soups and coffee, along with southern comfort food and made-fromscratch desserts. Breakfast is served from 8am11am and lunch is served 11am4:30pm; currently there is no dinner service. The true star of Patsy’s is their wood-fired Pizza, fire baked with oak wood in a brick oven imported from Milan, Italy. Patsy’s pizza is the best kept secret in Tomball, TX.

Patsy’s got it’s start as a place called “South Texas Coffee”, serving coffee, biscotti, cold sandwiches and desserts. Named after the original owner, Patsy. She eventually sold it to the current owners, her son and daughter-in-law Curtis & Tracey Morris, about 3 years ago. Their sons Curtis Jr. & Chris, daughter Rene and Curtis’s Mother Patsy all contribute to making the restaurant a success. Curtis Sr., who has been in the restaurant business for over 20 years, handles the operations. We can’t forget the two stellar waitresses, Amanda & Allison, who definitely add to Patsy’s charm.

I had a chance to sit down with Tracey and ask her some questions about Patsy’s: -What inspired you to add Wood Fired Pizzas to the menu? We thought it would offer more of a variety to our customers and, down the road, give us the possibility of having future menu items cooked or finished off in the oven. -Why did you choose to get a wood fired pizza oven imported in from Milan? My husband was in the restaurant industry for many years and he knew the owner of Antoine’s, who did a great deal of import/export. We wanted this oven because of the quality and the fact that this oven is totally wood fired. We did not want a gas start oven because that changes the flavor of the pizza. Wood gives the pizza a better, more authentic taste. We also use a five-cheese blend on our pizza (two kinds of Mozzarella, Provolone, Parmesan and Romano). My son Curtis created our recipe for the pizza dough, which is made from scratch daily, and our housemade sauce uses a blend of fresh herbs and the highest quality tomatoes.

-What are your and the staff’s favorite pizzas? BBQ Chicken with Jalapenos is Rene’s, Allison’s & mine. Curtis, Jr. loves the Mediterranean Veggie (with Chicken added), Amanda’s is the Pesto Chicken and my husband’s favorite is the Meat (with Jalapenos added). -How does your food reflect you and your family? Well, many of our recipes have been in our family for many generations, but there are many new innovations also. The chicken salad recipe had been handed down and has not been changed in two generations. The quality of the food is a reflection of us, and is an act of love. My mother-in-law, husband and kids work here. We put our love, sweat and tears into this restaurant every day. We would never serve anything we would not eat ourselves, which is why everything is made to order and cooked from scratch.

-What inspired you to become a restaurant owner? Baking was my forte, and my husband used to do restaurant startups. We had a chef friend who helped us move forward with the concept He and my husband developed the menu for Patsy’s (named after my mother-in-law). A lot of the more recent aspects (especially during the last two years), have been brought to fruition by my son Curtis. Each family member has their strong suit in different positions of the restaurant, which makes it work well.

-Besides Pizza, if you had to eat one food everyday on the Patsy’s menu, what would it be and why? Fish Tacos, because they come two ways, grilled or fried, and would be light enough to eat daily. -What are the most popular menu items at Patsy’s? Besides the wood fired pizzas, the Fiesta Tilapia, Pesto Shrimp Pasta and our homemade Tomato Basil Soup, which is featured daily. That soup has a huge following with our regular customers. The Buffalo Calamari is a popular appetizer here. Also, our pies are a bit hit for dessert. -Since baking is your forte, what is your signature dessert at Patsy’s? My Coconut Cream Pie. It is hard to keep it in the case and we often sell out. Also, the Fudge Covered Brownie. All our pies and dessert are made from scratch.

-What would you want to tell somebody about Patsy’s if they have never been here? This is a place where people feel comfortable; the customers are an extension of our family. We love when our customers give us feedback. Our business is all done by word of mouth, and we have never done any advertising. Also, that we have an open kitchen so we obviously have nothing to hide. -I have had your coffee; what sets yours apart from the national chains? Curtis Jr. buys our beans green and roasts them in house at least every two days so as to keep them fresh. He drives to the Port to pick up the coffee that is shipped directly from the farmers. We use different blends and varieties, but only the best beans are used. Our coffee isn’t meant to compete with the national chains, but we offer the best gourmet coffee at a comparable price to our patrons.

-What do you and your husband have planned for Patsy’s future? We are eventually going to build out toward the street. Currently we can seat about 30-32 people, but after expanding we will be able to seat 90+. We also want to have a coffee and wine bar wine and add some more signature dishes only we can make for our patrons to the menu. We will keep the original building and garage doors from the service station, because, amazingly, we still have customers that worked or were patrons of the original shop from the 40’s. -5 Words that describes Patsy’s? Quality, Family Atmosphere, Southern Charm, Hometown & Eclectic.

Patsy’s American Grill 425 W Main St Tomball, TX 77375 (281) 290-9664 Hours: Mon-Fri 8am- 4:30pm Saturday 8am- 4:00pm Sunday Closed

Our new website is launching the first week of April. We are very excited. With the website launch we are adding three new magazines. We will have two new Taste Magazines, one focusing on Atlanta, GA and the other focusing on Rochester, NY. The third magazine is Polished. Polished Magazine is aimed at aspiring beauty professionals to inform, educate and guide them to starting a career. The magazine will be promoted to over 60 cosmetology schools in the Houston Area. So stay tuned. We will make the launch announcement on Facebook.

Gozzetti’s Pizza is owned and operated by Bobby Glennon. The restaurant is located in The Woodlands. Taste Magazine had the privilege of interviewing Bobby and learning more about Gozzetti’s Pizza. Taste: How long has Gozzetti's been open? Gozzetti’s opened in February of 2009 in the Marcel Crossing Shopping Center located in the Sterling ridge section of The Woodlands. Taste: What made you decide to open? As a NJ transplant, I struggled to find quality, NY style pizza, here in The Woodlands. I was used to real fresh ingredients, the best quality mozzarella cheese, the finest sauce and toppings like eggplant, roasted red peppers, kalamata olives, spinach, ricotta, pesto, etc. on my pizza. I also couldn't find a good Sicilian Pizza, and ours is awesome! I struggled with the corporate chains and the frozen ingredients and wanted to bring a style and quality that I could be proud of, here to The Woodlands. I am proud to say the Gozzetti’s makes the finest pizza and only uses the highest quality ingredients available. Our customers really appreciate quality and we strive to maintain the highest standard of quality in everything we do.

Taste: What is your number one selling pizza? Well, we’re in Texas, and this is a meat loving state, so our best selling pizza is the “Gozzetti Grande” it has Pepperoni, Real vertically sliced Italian Sausage, sliced Italian meatballs and Canadian Bacon. A true meat lovers pizza! Taste: What makes you different compared to other places? Our commitment to consistency and quality. My main man “Angel” makes the best pizza anywhere and he treats the customers like they are family, as does all of our employees. If you want low priced pizza with frozen ingredients and quantity versus quality, then Gozzetti’s is not the place for you. If you want a pizza that rivals the best NY pizzerias, has a friendly atmosphere and thrives on customer satisfaction, then Gozzetti’s is the right place for you. We go out of our way to satisfy our customers. If we make a mistake, we make it right. Our signature pizza’s were created to expose The Woodlands to the kinds of pizza the are popular in the Northeast and expand on the traditional limited choice that you get with other pizza businesses.

Taste: Do you have any current specials? We always have specials on our website at www.gozzettis.com and we frequently put limited time specials and promo’s on our Facebook account that you can only get if you are a fan. So “like us” on Facebook and “friend us” to receive all of the valuable coupons and specials. Taste: Does Gozzetti’s support any charities? Over the past 2 years Gozzetti’s has sponsored numerous Woodlands High School and College Park High School sports teams, provided prizes for raffles, supported community events, sponsored little league teams, sponsored events at all of the local elementary schools, donated to MS, the Girl Scouts and The American Cancer Society. We have participated in fund raisers for the Woodlands Dog Park Club and helped raise money for needy families in Montgomery County.

Taste: What does the restaurant focus on to retain customers or draw new ones? It’s all about quality. We are in a bedroom community, we rely on our repeat customers for our businesses success. We appreciate all of the support that our customers have shown us over the past 2 years and we look forward to many more years of serving the best pizza in The Woodlands. Taste: What are the future plans for Gozzetti’s Pizza?? We just expanded our menu and added many new items. You never know, you could see a Gozzetti’s popping up in another neighborhood in The Woodlands. We have had a lot of requests to open in other parts of The Woodlands.

Gozzetti’s Pizzeria offers dine-in, carry out, delivery and catering. The menu focuses on pizza. They have 22 specialty pizzas to choose from and also have pizza by the slice. Also featured on the menu are wings, subs, salads, zettibolis, and calzones. If you are looking for something different try the Sicillian Style Pizza, it is a thick crust square 16” x 16” pizza.

Crust Pizza Co. opened on January 11, 2011. The owners Clint Price and Mark Rasberry really did their homework researching the best location for their business. In fact they looked at locations in three states before deciding on breaking ground in The Woodlands. Their goal was to have a family friendly restaurant that had a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere, but would also be appropriate for date night.

Clint and Mark also did a lot of research on the type of pizza they wanted to sell. They did not want to do a traditional New York Style pizza but something a little different. They came up with a thinner type crust. The dough is made fresh 3 to 4 times a day and requires a short proofing time. They felt this method gives them the freshest, best tasting pizza crust.

Crust Pizza Co. took things a step further and also offers glutenfree pizzas and whole wheat pizza crust. Having healthier choices and also appealing to people who have gluten allergies is another way they connect with their customers. They believe fresh is always better. They use fresh vegetables delivered daily and choose the best quality sauces, toppings and ingredients. They feel that great customer service and connecting with your customers is a great way to retain business as well as grow it through referrals. Because of their great food and customer service, they do very little advertising. Word of mouth was how they opened the restaurant, slow and quiet, but it has built a successful business.

The menu has many choices. They offer 4 different size pizzas, 37 pizza toppings and 17 specialty pizzas. Their best selling pizza is “The Original” The Original comes with roasted chicken, roma tomatoes, fresh basil, crushed garlic, virgin olive oil and mozzarella cheese. Not in the mood for pizza? That’s ok, because there is plenty more to choose from. For starters they have garlic knots, baked buffalo wings, garlic cheese bread and bruschetta. They offer 7 different salads with a choice of 8 different dressings. Looking for pasta? They have 10 different pasta selections and also give a choice of whole wheat spaghetti for $1.00 extra. Crust Pizza Co. also has 8 different hot subs available. All their subs come with your choice of Kettle Baked Chips. Soft drinks as well as beer and wine are available.

Crust Pizza Co. also serves great desserts including cannolis, tiramisu, and caramel turtle cheesecake. They offer dine in or carry out. Looking into the future Clint and Mark, plan on adding a few more locations. They feel that the restaurant’s concepts of fresh and friendly are a good combination for success. As they say: No slogans... No gimmicks... Just good pizza
