Untold Story of the Crisis – Gender, Equality and Inequalities | May 2012 The collapse of the construction industry has become the central focus of new policy initiatives aimed at maintaining existing employment levels and generating new job opportunities for example in construction. The economic crisis in Ireland is persistent and has brought with it new levels of inequality as incomes fall, public services are reduced, household debt levels rise and unemployment and emigration reach record highs. Forecasts for the Irish economy, for the most part, point to an economy in a continuing state of crisis. Ireland is clearly among those whose economies are experiencing a sustained recession affecting both men and women, with few signs of recovery on the horizon. Gender equality policy has become a victim of the recession and crisis management of the Irish economy.
