Getting Started
The First Day
Starting at a new school is an exciting milestone, and we want your child’s first day at TAS to be a positive and welcoming experience. Families will receive specific details about where to go, what to bring, and any orientation activities ahead of time. Staff will be on hand to greet new students, help them find their way, and introduce them to classmates, so they feel supported from the very beginning.
On the first day, students should arrive in full school uniform and bring their school bag, stationery, morning tea, lunch, and water bottle. Classroom and homeroom teachers will guide students through the daily routines, timetables, and expectations, helping them settle quickly into school life.
Parents are encouraged to say goodbye promptly at drop-off to help their child adjust confidently. Rest assured, our caring staff will ensure your child feels safe and welcomed and will contact you if any issues arise. By the end of the first day, most students will have already begun to form new friendships and feel at home at TAS.
DAILY TIMETABLES
Each day at TAS follows a structured timetable designed to provide a balance between learning, co-curricular activities, and wellbeing.
Students move through a combination of core subjects, specialist lessons, and opportunities for recreation and social connection. Teachers guide students through the routine to ensure they feel confident and settled in their daily routine.
Families can easily view their child’s timetable at any time through the Parent Orbit app or Parent Lounge. This allows parents to stay informed about their child’s classes, specialist lessons, and activities, making it easier to support them in being prepared for each school day.
SCHOOL CALENDAR
The TAS School Calendar is your go-to guide for everything happening across the school.
From term dates and the Outdoor Education Program, to concerts and special events, it’s all in one place.
As details can sometimes change, we recommend checking the School Calendar regularly to stay up to date. You can easily access the calendar anytime through Parent Lounge or the Parent Orbit app.

Before & After School Supervision
TAS offers Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) and Vacation Care for students in Prep to Year 6 at both campuses.
These services provide a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for children outside of regular school hours.
OSHC operates:
• Before school: 7:00 am – 8:30 am
After school: 3:15 pm – 5:45 pm.
• Vacation Care is available during school holiday periods and runs from 8:00 am to 5:45 pm.
Places in OSHC and Vacation Care are in high demand and fill quickly. Families who wish to use the service must first complete an enrolment form.
Once enrolled, you will be prompted to download the Xplor Home App, where you can create or edit bookings (subject to availability).
We recommend completing your enrolment early to secure your place.

Getting Started
Student Attendance
We believe regular attendance is the foundation for both learning and wellbeing. Coming to school every day helps students build strong friendships, stay engaged in their classes, and make steady progress in their education. We encourage families to support their child’s full attendance.
ABSENCES
We understand that occasionally students will need to be away. Illness, medical appointments, family emergencies, or cultural observances are all reasonable reasons for absence. Please notify the school via the Parent Orbit app when your child is absent, and provide supporting information if requested.
ARRIVING LATE AND LEAVING EARLY
Students arriving late or leaving early are asked to sign in or out at reception. Students are not permitted to leave school during the day without approval from a parent or carer.
EXTENDED LEAVE
Any absences longer than nine days must have prior approval from the Principal. While we understand that extended leave is sometimes unavoidable, continued poor attendance can significantly affect learning and wellbeing and may result in the cancellation of enrolment.
Tuckshop
PREP–YEAR 2
All tuckshop orders must be placed and paid for via My School Account (MSA). Orders will then be delivered directly to your child’s classroom.
Prep to Year 2 students are not permitted to order over the counter.
YEAR 3–6
Tuckshop orders and payments can be managed through MSA for classroom delivery. Students can use their student ID card to purchase items over the counter.
YEAR 7–12
Students or parents can place and pay for tuckshop orders via MSA and collect them from the tuckshop at a time that suits them.
Students can also purchase items over the counter using their ID card.
MY STUDENT ACCOUNT (MSA)
MSA also allows parents to review purchases, add funds, and block certain items if required, for example, to support dietary needs or allergy management.
To place an online click-and-collect order, please visit MSA:
https://msa.tas.qld.edu.au/

Technology
Technology is integrated into learning to build creativity, collaboration, and digital confidence, ensuring students use it safely and effectively.
ONE-TO-ONE LAPTOP PROGRAM
Students from Year 2 to Year 12 are part of the TAS one-to-one laptop program. Each student is issued with a school-managed laptop that is preloaded with the necessary software, ensuring equity of access and consistency across year levels. Technical support is available on campus to assist with any issues.
INTERNET AND PRINTING
All students have access to the school’s secure Wi-Fi network, with filters in place to promote safe and responsible online use. Printing facilities are available on campus, and students can log in and print from their laptops as required.
CLASSROOM TECHNOLOGY
Digital whiteboards are installed in classrooms across the school, providing interactive tools that enhance lessons and support engaging, modern teaching practices.
Lost Property
Lost property is kept at Kewarra Beach Reception, White Rock Primary Reception, or Secondary Student Services. Items are held for a short time before being donated or discarded, so families are encouraged to check regularly.
Personal Devices
TAS discourages students from bringing personal devices, such as mobile phones, to school. Students who need to contact their parents during the day can do so via the school phones at reception.
PRIMARY STUDENTS
Students in Primary must hand their phones into reception before school each morning and collect them at the end of the day.
SECONDARY STUDENTS
Secondary students are required to keep their phones switched off and secured in their lockers and may not use them during the school day.
CONSEQUENCES
If a student is found using their phone during school hours, the device will be confiscated. Moving forward, the student will then be required to hand their phone into the office each day before school and collect it after school.
For more information, please refer to the
Student ICT Acceptable Use Policy

This freedom helps students learn to manage their own priorities while still being supported within the school environment.
WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON ACTIVITIES
On Wednesday afternoons, students in Year 7 to 10 take part in a wide range of co-curricular activities. These sessions encourage students to step beyond the classroom and explore interests such as sport, outdoor education, service learning, creative arts, or cultural activities. Options vary from term to term, giving students the chance to try new experiences, foster teamwork, and develop lifelong skills.
Together, TAS Time and Wednesday Afternoon Activities form an important part of the TAS experience, helping students balance academic study with personal growth, wellbeing, and community connection.
Students in Years 11 and 12 participate in a program called Wednesday Rotations. Throughout the semester, they rotate through each of their academic subjects in extended 90-minute sessions. The Wednesday Rotations timetable for Years 11 and 12 is provided at the start of each semester.

TAS is committed to listening respectfully, responding in a timely manner, and using feedback to guide ongoing improvements in teaching, learning, and the overall school environment. By working together, we ensure every student can thrive and every family feels heard and supported.
Parent-Teacher contact
Open communication between parents and teachers supports student success.
Families are encouraged to contact teachers with questions or concerns, and teachers may reach out with updates.
In addition to scheduled Parent-Teacher Interviews, appointments can be requested anytime. Parents can also email teachers easily via the Parent Orbit app by selecting Student --> Email Class Teachers.
Parent Engagement
Parent involvement is central at TAS. Families are encouraged to attend events, volunteer, join parent groups, and connect with staff. Through communication, activities, and feedback, TAS fosters a sense of belonging, supporting students’ learning and enriching the school experience for all.
Reporting, Learning Analytics & Parent-Teacher Interviews
Clear, timely, and transparent reporting is central to a successful school–home learning partnership.
Families receive regular updates on their child’s academic progress through semester reports, online portals, and ongoing communication with teachers.
Learning Analytics (Years 7–12) provides detailed insights into student achievement and growth, helping track progress, identify strengths, and address challenges quickly, ensuring teaching is personalised and responsive.
Parent-Teacher Interviews (PTIs) are held twice yearly to celebrate progress, discuss goals, and support continued growth. Families are also encouraged to contact teachers anytime, reflecting our commitment to open communication and shared responsibility for student success.

Parent Social Media Groups
To help families connect, a Facebook Messenger Community is available for each Year level. The groups are created in Pre-Kindy and stay active through to Year 12, supporting lasting friendships and a strong sense of community among families.
These communities are established by the school; however, they are not official school communication channels. They provide a friendly space for parents to share reminders, plan playdates, and support one another throughout their TAS journey.
Parents will be invited to join their applicable group when their child commences at the TAS. Please note that families must not create their own social media groups using the TAS name, branding, or images.
This helps maintain consistency, protect privacy, and uphold the integrity of the school’s brand. We kindly ask that all communication within these groups remains respectful, inclusive, and positive, ensuring they continue to reflect the supportive and collaborative spirit of our TAS community.

School Life
Annual Events
Events are central to life at TAS, strengthening connections between students, families, and the wider community.
From academic showcases and musical performances to sports carnivals and cultural celebrations, students share talents, celebrate achievements, and create lasting memories.
Families are encouraged to participate, cheering at carnivals, attending concerts, supporting service initiatives, or joining community celebrations.
These experiences enrich school life and foster belonging. For updates, families can check the school calendar via the Parent Orbit app or Parent Lounge.
Tours and Trips
Tours and trips at TAS extend learning beyond the classroom through excursions, camps, and cultural or sporting tours.
These experiences build independence, resilience, and teamwork while deepening subject knowledge and real-world understanding.
Opportunities arise throughout the year, offering safe, engaging, and memorable programs that enrich each student’s education.
Subject Selection
Subject selection is a key part of the secondary school journey, allowing students to choose subjects that match their interests, strengths, and future pathways.
School Calendar

Guidance is provided through information sessions, handbooks, and conversations with teachers, Heads of Year, and the Careers and Pathways team.
The goal is to support students in exploring passions, challenging themselves academically, and preparing for senior schooling and beyond. Students in Years 8 to 10 select subjects annually in Term 3 for the following year.

Houses
The House system builds school spirit, community, and connection.
Every student is assigned a House on joining TAS, fostering a sense of belonging across year levels and campuses. It supports pastoral care through daily interactions with Homeroom teachers and peers. Throughout the year, students engage in House activities such as sports carnivals, academic challenges, arts events, and service initiatives.
House points recognise achievements while promoting teamwork, leadership, and pride. Participation nurtures identity, camaraderie, and school spirit, enriching each student’s TAS experience.

Outdoor Education
TAS’s nationally recognised, award-winning Outdoor Education program encourages students to engage with the natural environment, developing resilience, teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, confidence, independence, and an appreciation for the outdoors.
The program includes camps, adventure-based learning, environmental studies, and team challenges, with each stage building progressively on prior skills.
As a Nature Play accredited Early Learning Centre and Primary Outdoor Learning School, TAS offers unique experiences that inspire curiosity, strengthen peer connections, and provide valuable life skills beyond school.
THE PHASES OF THE OUTDOOR EDUCATION EXPERIENCE

Dream Phase - “The idea becomes a goal.”
Students are invited to imagine the adventure ahead. They research, ask questions and begin to visualise their experience.
Preparation Phase - “The journey begins before we leave.”
Physical, emotional and mental preparation helps students set goals, manage expectations, and build confidence.
Action Phase - “Challenge accepted.”
The adventure unfolds, whether a one-day or a multi-day expedition. Students discover their limits, strengths, and teammates.
Reflection Phase - “Stories shape growth.”
Reflection brings the learning full circle. Students share their stories, process new insights and return changed for the better.

Important Information
Health and Medical
Student health and wellbeing is a priority at TAS. Families are asked to provide up-todate medical information, including allergies, medications, and emergency contacts, via Parent Orbit or Parent Lounge. Each campus has a sick bay with trained staff to provide first aid and manage medical needs. Parents may be contacted to collect a child if necessary. TAS works with families to support individual health plans, ensuring students feel safe and supported, and promoting overall wellbeing.
Image Consent
TAS celebrates student learning and achievements through newsletters, publications, social media, and the school website. To protect privacy, families are prompted to update Image Consent permissions annually, indicating whether their child’s image can be used in school communications. Permissions can be updated anytime via Parent Lounge. TAS respects family decisions and carefully follows consent guidelines, allowing us to celebrate students’ successes while safeguarding privacy.
Policies and Procedures
TAS has comprehensive policies to ensure student safety, wellbeing, and success, covering attendance, behaviour, communication, health and safety, privacy, and technology use.
These provide clear expectations for students, staff, and families and guide our community. Families can access key policies via Parent Orbit, Parent Lounge, or the school website and are encouraged to familiarise themselves with those relevant to their child. Following these guidelines helps create a consistent, supportive, and respectful environment where every student can thrive.
Policies, procedures and the code of coduct are on the school website: https://tas.qld.edu.au/ school-policies/
Opportunities
Careers & VET
TAS prepares students for life beyond school by supporting exploration of study, training, and career pathways.
The Careers and Pathways team provides tailored guidance to help students identify strengths, interests, and aspirations, making informed decisions about subjects, tertiary study, apprenticeships, and employment.
Students access career counselling, guest speakers, work experience, university and TAFE sessions, and pathway planning tools. Working closely with families, TAS ensures students feel supported and confident as they plan their future.
TAS UCAT Pathways and Padea
TAS partners with external providers to offer specialised tutoring.
TAS UCAT Pathways Course in partnership with Med Entry and Monash University supports students pursuing medical pathways with oncampus weekly UCAT preparation, providing expert guidance and practice.
Padea Education delivers personalised tutoring for senior students, offering subjectspecific support, structured study time, and mentoring in small groups to help students complete homework, assessments, and achieve their academic potential.

Lifelong Connections
Alumni
TAS is proud of its vibrant alumni community, which grows each year.
Alumni remain an important part of the TAS story, contributing by sharing experiences, mentoring current students, and supporting events and initiatives.
Regular reunions and alumni events provide opportunities to reconnect with friends, celebrate shared memories, and strengthen ties with the TAS community.
These occasions allow reflection on the school’s history while looking to the future, ensuring the sense of belonging fostered at TAS lasts well beyond graduation.
Parent help & Volunteering
TAS acknowledges and values the important role our broader community plays in the education of students through strong connections between home and school.
We warmly welcome and encourage parents, carers, and community members to volunteer their time, share their skills, or support the school through sponsorship or donations. There are many opportunities to get involved, including classroom assistance, performing arts recitals and productions, sporting events, third-party homestays, and the school tuckshop.
Join the Alumni Register
Visit the school website: https://tas.qld.edu.au/ alumni-2/
Volunteering at TAS is subject to child protection and workplace health and safety requirements to ensure the safety of both students and volunteers. All volunteers must register with the school, complete an induction, and hold a valid Blue Card to work with children.
