Making mischief at Lache Library!

Lache Library was the venue for a summer reading challenge, where children were encouraged to read books with the theme ‘Mischief Makers’.

This is one of the most popular events held every year where children who have participated in the summer reading challenge are presented with a certificate and a medal.

Local councillors Cllr Razia Daniels and Neil Sullivan were delighted to support the event which took place at Lache Library by using their members budget to provide the certificates and medals.

Cllr Sullivan said: “This annual challenge enthuses our local children to keep reading in the Summer holidays.”

Cllr Daniels said “It was just wonderful to see so many children had taken part and said that they really enjoyed the reading challenge.”

ACNE - Causes an Having suffered miserably myself with acne for many years as a teenager affecting my face, chest and back I know how distressing the condition is.

Why does Acne occur?

Our bodies produce a hormone called androgen which stimulates our sebaceous glands to produce an oily substance called sebum. An over production of sebum causes blocked pores, trapping the oil.

Bacteria produced in skin (P. Acneâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s) feed on and break down sebum. The P. Acnes bacteria become trapped and then the mixture of sebum, hair protein and fatty acids produced by the bacteria irritate the walls of the hair follicle causing inflammation and swelling.

At Hough Green Clinic we treat acne with Ellipse Intense Pulsed Light (Laser). The Ellipse treatment

reduces the blood supply to the sebaceous gland, which in turn slows down the production of sebum.

We recommend a course of four treatments at three weekly intervals. The best results are achieved on inflammatory acne - red, aching, raised pimples.

The treatment is practically pain-free. It is like a flick of an elastic band on the skin followed by a feeling of gentle warmth.

Romy’s rhino gets a new lease of life The Lache Community Centre Rhino has had a facelift thanks to budding young designer Romy Redston.

‘African Rhino’ was originally part of the Chester Rhino Mania public art trail in 2010. One of 62 decorated sculptures that was sold at auction after the art trail ended and spent seven years at Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

Last year Liverpool Airport kindly gifted the rhino to the Lache Community. Originally painted

by Cheshire artist Mike Kilkelly as a tiger, the rhino has now had a total facelift following a competition with local school children.

Said Cllr Louise Gittins: “We thought this would be a great opportunity to give the rhino a new coat. We worked with the two local primary schools, Lache Primary and St Clare’s Catholic Primary to hold a design competition with the children, the winning design being brought to life on the rhino by local artist, Lucy Elizabeth Jones , who was part of the original art team for Rhino Mania.”

Marian Ryder, from St Clare’s Catholic Primary School, said: “Pupils in St Clare’s were delighted when they were invited to design a new skin for the ‘community rhino’. There were lots of excellent entries and after viewing all the wonderful, artistic pieces, the judges decided that Romy’s design was the one.

“Romy is in Year Three at St Clare’s and loves being creative and artistic. She was very honoured and excited about being asked to cut the ribbon on the newly decorated rhino and is thrilled with the final outcome. There was a buzz around school on Friday when friends from Romy’s class accompanied her to the ceremony. All the children said they love the ‘new look’ rhino.”

Rain fails to stop river clean-up Volunteers braved some wet weather and came out in force to support this year’s Big Dee Clean-Up. Teams of volunteers worked to make much-needed improvements to the walkways along the River Dee opposite the Groves, near to the suspension bridge in Handbridge.

Tasks included scraping off encroaching vegetation on the sides of the pathway and cutting back over-hanging vegetation near to seating benches to reveal a much wider walkway and inviting places to rest and admire the surrounding views.

Girl injured outside college Police are still appealing for information after an 11-year-old girl was struck by a car near to West Cheshire College, on Eaton Road.

The girl was in collision with a red VW Passat estate on Friday 28th September around 8.30am.

She suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital. The driver, a 51-year-old man, was not injured.

Beer and wine shop moves to Handbridge A well-known Hoole business is moving to Handbridge.

Chester Beer and Wine has been run by Sam Jackson, with help from Sue Mason and Dave Calver, expertly selling a huge range beers, wines and spirits – many locally sourced. But they are moving out following a change of landlord – and now they are seeking funding help for the move.

Owner Sam says: “We are so excited about the

new premises and our move to Handbridge.
