As your student begins their search, we hope that they will consider becoming a Tarleton Texan. Tarleton’s mission is to provide an affordable education that inspires discovery and leadership for your student. With over 92% of our first-time students receiving financial assistance, we have also added a guaranteed scholarship award program and a Tarleton Promise program that helps students pay for college. Tarleton is known for hands-on experiences outside of the classroom, and has student resources like Career Services, Tutoring, and more to ensure your student thrives as a Texan.

Your tour will cover the entire 273-acre campus so check the weather and wear appropriate clothing and shoes! ADA accommodations are also available.

BRING YOUR QUESTIONS

Your campus tour will be led by a current student, this is the time for you and your student to ask questions. You will also speak with an admissions counselor that is knowledgeable on all things Tarleton, from residential living and campus safety, to cost and your student’s next steps, and they are ready to answer any questions you have.

PLAN AHEAD AND MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR TRIP

The Welcome Center is here to make the most of your visit, take advantage of specialty tours that can be included in your day like Housing Tours, Ag Center Tours and Nursing Tours. If your student has a major in mind, email beforehand to request an academic meeting with their program.

CONSIDER VISITING THE CAMPUS BOOKSTORE

The Texans Campus Store is your one-stop-shop to get all your Tarleton swag. Pick out a t-shirt for the entire family while visiting and don’t forget: we wear purple on Thursdays!

EXPLORE STEPHENVILLE

We highly recommend setting some time aside to explore Stephenville. Get a feel for the community and locate important resources like grocery stores, banks, and local restaurants. Ask your tour guide for recommendations on their favorite places.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

DISTINGUISHED LEVEL OF ACHIEVEMENT

To meet admission requirements, your student must earn the Distinguished Level of Achievement in their Foundation High School Program.

• Complete 26 credits and meet Foundation High School Program curriculum requirements

• Complete curriculum requirements for at least one endorsement

• Complete four credits in science

AUTOMATIC ADMISSION

If your student is ranked in the top half of their class and meets the requirements above, their admission to Tarleton is guaranteed.

SUBMIT TARLETON UNDERGRADUATE APPLICATION

• Applications are accepted through ApplyTexas, Tarleton Undergraduate App, and Common App. Only submit one application, Tarleton has no preference on which your student chooses.

• The application Fee is $50; Fee waivers available to those who qualify.

ORDER TRANSCRIPTS

• Ask your student’s school to send official high school transcripts electronically or by mail.

SUBMIT TEST SCORES (OPTIONAL)

• Not required for admission, but ACT or SAT test scores can improve your student’s scholarship awarding and possible TSI exemption.

Tuition and fees will vary based on the hours your student is enrolled in. Cost of attendance takes into account an estimated range for an average full time student. The cost can vary by degree and course type, state residency, and tuition plan.

Cost reflects a full year (two semesters). Out-of-State is averaged at $38,692.

Your student’s hard work could pay off. The President’s Guaranteed Scholarship Program guarantees a minimum scholarship, based on your students academic performance.

Tarleton general scholarship application must be completed to qualify. Awards are renewable for up to 4 years and will be split between fall and spring semesters. If your student is graduating from a Distinguished High School Partner, they will have a higher award amount. choose.tarleton.edu/gap

TARLETON PROMISE

For students that qualify, a Tarleton bachelors degree could come at no cost. The Tarleton Promise covers all expenses not covered by scholarships and grants, including tuition, fees, room and board, and even textbooks.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PREVIEW DAY AND ORIENTATION?

A preview day at Tarleton is a campus tour experience for your student to see what it is like to be a Texan. Texan Orientation is required for admitted students who plan on attending Tarleton. At orientation, your student will register and enroll in classes.

HOW DO WE ACCESS, REVIEW AND PAY ON MY STUDENT’S ACCOUNT?

WHAT IS FERPA AND HOW CAN I GAIN ACCESS?

FERPA is a federal law that safeguards the privacy of student education records and grants students certain rights over their records. For information on how to release records visit here: choose.tarleton.edu/ferpa

WHEN SHOULD WE START PLANNING FOR COLLEGE?

You should start planning during your students’ high school years. Starting early allows you more time to explore your options, research scholarships and financial aid, and prepare for the transition.

SHOULD MY STUDENT APPLY FOR AID EVEN IF THEY THINK THEY WON’T QUALIFY?

Yes! Many families think they don’t qualify and prevent themselves from receiving aid by not applying. Some sources of aid are available regardless of need, plus the FAFSA/TASFA is free!

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER MY STUDENT COMPLETES THE FAFSA/TASFA?

Your student’s application will be processed by the Department of Education and then will be sent to Tarleton State University so eligibility can be determined.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A DISBURSEMENT AND A REFUND?

Disbursement is when financial aid and scholarship awards are released to pay for your students tuition, fees, and housing expenses. A refund is when you receive money back after your financial aid and scholarships have paid for your expenses and you have funds left over.
