A record lucky seven for

KOMPOZYT-EXPO 2016! ®

KOMPOZYT-EXPO® in Krakow has never attracted such huge interest before! Three months before the opening, more than 70% of the exhibition space has already been rented. This means an even larger group of Exhibitors from Poland and abroad and many additional attractions for Visitors, first among them being the premiere of the Polish Super-drone, the first of its kind in our country.

The record attendance of companies, as well as its extraordinary accompanying events, confirm the widely recognized brand and importance of the Krakow KOMPOZYT-EXPO®, one of the major composite industry events in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe. This year’s seventh edition of KOMPOZYT-EXPO® stands out for several reasons: • firstly: a larger number of Exhibitors – pioneers in their field, with a large proportion of French and German companies; • secondly: a new Start-up zone, including young, vibrant companies set to shape the strength of the Polish economy in the future. Thanks to direct meetings with investors, they will be able to channel their ideas into actual contracts and business projects; • thirdly: the Polish premiere of the Superdrone and many other composite products. These events are meant to show the wide application of composites in almost every area of life; • fourthly: three industry events at one time and in one place: this year’s KOMPOZYT-EXPO® will be held alongside the 7th Trade Fair for Suppliers of Maintenance Products and Services – Maintenance and the 8th International Trade Fair for Powder & Bulk Solids Technologies – SyMas. KOMPOZYT-EXPO® will create an opportunity to forge valuable business contacts and find out about recent technological innovations. See you on the 5th and 6th of October at the EXPO Krakow International Exhibition and Convention Centre. In the meantime, you are warmly invited to read the 1st issue of our bulletin!

How did it all begin?

Our 20 years are not so much compared to the 95th anniversary celebrated by the International Trade Fair in Poznań. But until the end of the 1980s, Poznań had the only trade fair in the country.

After that, trade fair companies mushroomed. As many as three opened in Krakow alone. In 1996, the market saw the rise of Targi w Krakowie (Krakow Trade Fairs), one of the few fully privately run companies in the sector.

“The political and economic transformation changed the face of Polish industries participating in trade fairs and the trade fairs themselves, as well as their broader environment. State and private entrepreneurship gained equal rights.

The state monopoly on foreign trade was abolished and the Foreign Exchange Law amended. The Trade Fair in Poznań lost its monopoly but won economic and legal independence. Shaped by old and new actors, this was the background against which the Polish trade fair market eventually developed. Existing trade fair

companies were privatized; their experts became economically independent and set up new companies. Municipalities saw opportunities for rapid growth and often created their own trade fairs as well. Exhibition activity was fueled by technological progress and innovation centres. Private initiatives in trade fair organization mushroomed and the Polish Trade Fair Corporation was established. Nothing remained quite the way it was before the big breakthrough. Krakow responded to the new challenge quickly and to the full extent of its potential. Tra-

de fairs in the city were organized from scratch as bottom-up initiatives. Several robust companies entered the fray. Targi w Krakowie debuted in 1996 with a resolution and strong interest in the trade fair sector, and quickly chalked up numerous local and foreign experiences.

It changed ideas into reality. Company managers shunned unnecessary bravado and surrounded themselves with competent staff, avoiding serious mistakes.

They competed first on a local, and then on a much broader scale. Their efforts were crowned with the construction of

an exhibition and convention venue.

This is how business should be run.

The shortest and simplest way to show this is on a graph. But the graph cannot illustrate the emotions, the funny and unexpected moments that stay in our memory for years.

First the partners, exhibitors, and visiting experts. First a good product, then the “hardware.” Within the space of just 20 years, Targi w Krakowie have not only

managed to get off the ground but also to build an enormous, robust, and modern trade fair centre. This is how the period was described by the former president of the Polish Trade Fair Corporation and the International Trade Fair in Poznań, Bogdan Zalewski. The current president of the only industry trade fair organization, the Polish Chamber of the Trade Fair Industry and the president of the International Trade Fair in Poznań, Przemysław Trawa comments:

A Polish Super-drone at KOMPOZYT-EXPO 2016!

KOMPOZYT-EXPOÂŽ is famous as the most important venue for presenting cutting-edge solutions and composite materials in this part of Europe. Every edition is accompanied by extraordinary events and exhibitions presenting the wide array of applications that composites find in various areas of life. At the trade fair at EXPO Krakow, we could watch gliders, open-wheel racers, OPTIMIST boats, and futuristic cars, for instance.

Now, the time has come to present the first Polish Super-drone, a construction unheard of in our country until now!

This is the first drone of this type in Poland, and perhaps in the world at large. Constructed by Drony Sp. z o.o., it can not only

fly, but also dive and travel under the water. The cutting-edge craft is steered by head movements using special goggles, allowing us to look beyond the reach of human sight. These are but a few exceptional features of the drone, whose main purpose is to assist rescue teams; the constructor will divulge more information immediately before and during the dedicated presentation of the Super-drone at the exhibition.

The company N-POL Cutting Tools in addition to a wide range of milling cutters presents the enhanced drill composites.

New drill DC1 and DC2 of N-POL Cutting Tools made of special sorts of carbide (VHM), this means even more effective tool. Drills with a special geometry of the blades give primarily increased productivity and high quality of holes drilled in a variety of composite materials. Compared to traditional HSS drill bits or standard of carbide our drills are characterized by optimum geometry adapted for drilling in tough composite materials where the biggest problem is the cutting of fibers and delamination when passing drill through the material. Drills with a dual phase improves quality and more effectively prevent delamination and it is left uncut fibers.

SDF range, acrylic monomer-modified resins for use in the production of Solid Surface products by casting. Such products have a very high surface resistance to chemical substances, particularly to those used in household chemicals, and very good mechanical and thermal resistance properties.

Combined with special mineral fillers, i.e. coloured quartz, marble and granite, these resins are used in the production of sinks, washbasins and kitchen countertops.

Young entrepreneurs. Dynamic, full of passion, energy, and fervour. According to the stereotype, young business people are hungry for success and want to develop their enterprise quickly, using online tools and avoiding trade fairs. But the reality is different. Young enterprises increasingly appreciate the opportunities provided by trade fairs. The accumulated potential of several days of making new contacts, building relations, making oneself known in the industry and recognized by clients, makes even the youngest businesses include trade fairs in their limited and meticulously designed budgets. Why? Let’s listen to the owners of young Polish businesses that have recently made a splash on the Polish and foreign markets.

Even businesses of a seemingly non-trade fair type have trade fairs to thank for their success…

Seventy-one is a young and successful Polish brand. Founded in 2010, it has already achieved the rank of a leading producer of sports board equipment.

Their flagship product is the skimboard

– a skateboard without wheels used in extreme water sports. Seventy-one also specializes in organizing skimboard events and shows.

“As is often the case, it all started with a passion. Everyone at Seventy-one is a skateboarding fanatic. We decided to turn our private passion into a business and started producing skimboards,” explains Adam Chrabąszcz, the owner of Seventy-one.

Trade fairs are an ideal venue to present products such as the skimboard.

Seventy-one’s stands tend to attract a lot of interest. Besides the typical trade fair structure, the stand has a skimboarding track where any visitor can touch the product and test it out for themselves.

For Seventy-one, trade fairs mean much more than just prestige, new business contacts, and the opportunity to present their offer directly to customers.

“Each of us works in a different department of the company. Trade fairs give us the chance to bring all decision-making staff together in one office, in this case at the trade fair stand.

It’s an ideal venue for creative brainstorming. It is at a trade fair that the idea for a skimboarding track was first floated; the new board, later introduced into our offer, was also created at a trade fair,” explains Chrabąszcz.

“For us, presence at trade fairs is not just a seasonal thing. We invest in trade fair marketing all year round. In the summer, we work to attract Clients: both extreme sport aficionados and companies interested in event organization. In the winter, on the other hand, we test new products on a special track in a wellheated hall. Trade fairs give us more and it would be a mistake not to take advantage!” sums up Chrabąszcz.

Business flourishing at stands?

The Krakow-based company MOSS decor has all the makings of success: an innovative product – an absolute novelty on the Polish market, an excellent business idea, and the enthusiasm of its owners. Despite their faith in the efficiency of trade fair marketing, the young company first had to count every penny. “We hesitated for a long time on whether it makes sense to join the trade fair. But the first few hours at the EXPO Krakow exhibition and convention centre were enough to convince us that we hit the nail on the head with our decision to attend it.

MOSS decor specializes in designing and producing vertical gardens: green vegetal walls. The designers came to the trade fair with fashionable ideas for natural vegetal interior accessories, both for private apartments and commercial spaces. An

absolute hit was the green moss - a natural, fluffy decoration that lasts for many years and needs no cultivation.

“We handed out a lot of leaflets and visiting cards and our catalogues went like hot cakes; we ran out of copies to distribute on the last day. We gained a lot of interesting contacts, which was particularly important for us,” says Justyna Kosek, Sales Specialist at MOSS decor.

Trade fairs in Poland – a growing trend Nearly 1.5 million visitors, 29 thousand exhibitors, more than 760 thousand m2 of space rented at more than 200 events: these are the figures of industry trade fairs held in 2015. Trade fairs are experiencing a revival in Poland.

Over the last two years, the Polish trade fair market has been growing, spurred primarily by the improved economic situation, as evidenced by the systematic growth in GDP, Polish membership in the European Union, and the advantageous geopolitical location of our country. The boom has particularly benefited entrepreneurs, especially small and medium-sized Polish companies, whose proportion among the total number of exhibitors at trade fairs in Poland has been invariably high for years. As many as 84% of exhibitors see participation in trade fairs as an effective means to achieve marketing and communication objectives.
