This song is a love letter written from the perspective of a young girl from Brazil. She expresses her longing for a boy named Charlie singing Vou Com Você (I will go with you). Even though the young couple has only just met, she expresses her desire to go with him, no matter the destination.

PERFORMANCE NOTES This should be treated as a song, meaning liberties can be taken with rhythms if they are too challenging. I wrote this to be comfortable under my hands, so if there is one ‘lick’ that is giving you trouble, feel free to play something else that is complementary. I strongly believe that every time this song is performed it should sound a little different. No two voices or players are exactly the same, and I want the performers’ individuality to shine through. This is a song, not an etude! The chords are written into the score in case you want to get creative. When performing this song, I recommend angling the marimba slightly to face the singer as they face the audience. The pronunciation of many Portuguese words can be challenging so I recommend listening to Brazilian singers to fine-tune the accent. Particularly Elis Regina, Mariana Aydar, and of course the famous Stan Getz and Joâo Gilberto recording of The Girl from Ipanema. If a vocalist is not available, the vocal part is suitable and effective if performed by another instrumentalist such as flute, horn, et cetera.
