PROGRAM NOTES
City Lights is an exhilarating multipercussion duet that captures the vibrant and explosive pulse of urban life. Inspired by my time in Nashville, Tennessee, from August to December 2024, this piece reflects both my personal and professional experiences during my final semester as an undergraduate student at Troy University. As part of my degree requirements, I had the opportunity to intern with four incredible individuals in the music industry, an experience that deeply influenced my creative process. Though I began composing this work in June, I found myself at a standstill for a time, unable to find a title that truly encapsulated its essence. It wasn’t until October, after reflecting on my months in Nashville, that the title City Lights emerged, portraying the energy, complexity, and beauty of the city I had come to know.
This composition invites listeners to immerse themselves in an auditory exploration of contemporary urban life. Through its intricate rhythms and bombastic instrumentation, City Lights paints the picture of a modern cityscape. In a world that is always in flux, City Lights stands as a tribute to the beauty found in the hustle and the shared humanity that binds us all under the glow of the city’s lights.
