Statement of Service

Concordian International School is a service-oriented school that provides opportunities for all community members to engage and take action in response to individual and collective needs.

Service at Concordian:

Middle School (G6-G8) Community Engagement

Beginning in the 2024-25 Academic Year, the secondary Service Department launched a new program called the Middle School Community Engagement Program for all students from Grade 6 to Grade 8. Students were able to sign up for mini service trips that would take place either during shortened day afternoons, or on Saturday mornings.

Local communities including orphanages, schools, daycares, elderly care facilities, and nature education centers were chosen based upon several factors such as student interest, proximity to Concordian, and variety of community engagement activities.

This program allows our students to experience Service and Community Engagement in a way that is embedded in their school life and allows Concordian to form lasting connections to these communities, providing benefits to both sides. By exposing our middle school students to a variety of different types of service, we hope to nurture their compassion, and grow their interest in helping the world around them.

Grade 9 - Independent Community Project

Grade 9 students undertake a year-long Independent Community Project. The project includes conducting Community Engagement through Research, Planning, and Action at various communities throughout Bangkok and surrounding areas. In their project, student groups are expected to identify a community to work with, investigate the community’s needs, and plan direct service activities, such as volunteering trips and making donations. These communities included Orphanages, Elderly Care centers, Animal shelters, and more.

At the end of the academic year, students present their projects at the Grade 9 Community Engagement Project Exhibition. The exhibition is the culmination of a year-long project for the Grade 9s, where they share their accomplishments, challenges, and lessons learned from the experience with their peers and teachers.

Grade 10 - Service Initiative

Grade 10 students engage in Service through their own initiative, whether it is through participation or leadership of a Service club or by developing their own independent Service / Community Engagement project.

This initiative is to ensure that Grade 10 students continue and maintain their direct Service participation from previous years in areas that suit their interests, while also preparing them for the CAS program in IBDP.

Grade 11-12: Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS)

CAS (Creativity, Activity, and Service) is an IB Diploma graduation requirement for all students. Throughout the DP, all students are expected to complete a minimumof10MajorCASexperiences, and 5 minor CAS experiences across the three strands of Creativity, Activity, andService.

Students have the opportunity to join schoolsclubs,sportsteams,andbands, to fulfill CAS experience requirements, as well as undertake their own independent experiences outside of school,whichcanalsocomeunderthe threestrands.

The CAS programs begins on the first dayofGrade11.Studentsarerequired to complete their experiences, which include evidence and reflection, by graduation day. Non-DP students are required to complete the same programasagraduationrequirement.
