1032 PASEO DEL PUEBLO SUR, TAOS, (575) 758-8484 5STARBURGERS.COM In addition to 5 Star’s award-winning burgers is its well-liked happy hour, which features their own take on the “slider” starting at $1.65 each. Also offered from 4 to 6 p.m. daily are $3 tap beers, $3.50 house wines and under $3 appetizers such as “Crispy Green Chile Strips” and “Frickle Fries.” Good stuff. No wonder it keeps winning this category.

Who doesn’t like Pizaños presented by “Two guys from Utica, New York, putting a Taos twist on pizza?” Of course they have the tried-and-true pizza pie combinations everyone is familiar with, but their menu also includes specialties such as the “Taoseño” (pepperoni or Italian sausage, mushrooms and green chile), “The Mayor” (pesto base, chicken, onion, fresh tomato, salami, chipotle pepper, cilantro and feta) and the “Fire Twirler” (pepperoni, Canadian bacon, green chile and pineapple).
125 PASEO DEL PUEBLO NORTE, TAOS, (575) 758-2233 TAOSINN.COM The Adobe Bar isn’t referred to as “The living room of Taos” by chance or default. Some seating is cradled in the lobby of the popular, historic inn known for free local music. The connected bar area was once the Tarleton family home built in the 1800s. The Adobe Bar is famous for its margaritas; the “Cowboy Buddha” is one of the best in town. It should come as no surprise that the Adobe Bar started racking up first-place votes beginning with the first Best of Taos poll in 1999.

402 PASEO DEL PUEBLO SUR, TAOS, (575) 758-3632 FACEBOOK.COM/THECHOWCART(MANTES) Taos has come a long way from voting McDonald’s “Best Fast Food” in the first Best of Taos in 1999. Besides its vaulted breakfast burrito, Mante’s menu includes local lunch favorites such as the Trujillo burrito and green chile cheeseburger. Mante’s fast and fresh fare puts national Mexican food chains to shame. (Sorry, McDonald’s — it’s no longer a contest.)

BEST ROADSIDE FOOD STAND 1 . MARY JANE’S HOME COOKING 616 PASEO DEL PUEBLO SUR, TAOS, (575) 770-1171 The food stand/”taco truck”... unpretentious, but oh so good and a local’s breakfast and/or lunch mainstay. And Mary Jane’s Northern New Mexico cooking consistently sits at the top of the heap having been a Best of Taos winner for 12 years running. The simple exterior belies terrific fare.

201 PASEO DEL PUEBLO SUR, TAOS, (575) 758-1900 TAOSMESABREWING.COM The Tap Room and its sibling location, The Mothership, swapped places this time around, which is probably due more to proximity than beer quality. Since opening 6 years ago, the beer geeks at Taos Mesa Brewing have delivered on a promise of offering excellent locally handcrafted brews at three locations (including Taos Ski Valley during ski season). There are a dozen distinct, high quality house beers on tap at all times from a light choice such as Kolsch .45 to darker brews like the Black Widow Porter, and every taste/style in between.
