BACKGROUND This is 2017 reddot award - communication design project of the competition in around March.It was a good opportunity for me to do something challenging.I tried to give my project some meanings which rise to the aspect of philosophy.

It took a long time but had a great growth to perceive the idea and make it happen.

AS IS SHOWN ON THE LEFT WHEN THE LIGHT STRIKES ON THE WALL AND MAKE A DIFFUSE REFLECTION, WE CAN FEEL THE LIGHT BRIGHT AND SEE THE OUTLINE OF THE WALL IT MEANS THAT THE LIGHT IS EXPRESSED BY A REAL MEDIUM

THE SAME WAY, WHEN TRANSFORM THE MEDIUM INTO DUST WE CAN SEE THE DUST DIFFUSE IN SPACE AND ADMIRE THE DYNAMIC BEAUTY IT MEANS THAT THE LIGHT IS EXPRESSED BY A REAL MEDIUM

If we put this amzing phenomenon into philosophy, it’s clear to say that the things we feel are not true and we cannot realize the real world. The other paraphrase is that the ‘real things’ break away from our perception which become insignificance.

Therefore, the definition of time and space are allowed to base on what human can perceive otherwise science cannot explain numerous objective facts. So in a way information is the world, including time and space, and it cannot reach the velocity of the light.

Human being have done the researches for CONCLUSION long time to perceive the world and nature which need to gather information, and Medium: there are some restriction for doing it. For A carrier connect subject and perception instance,you have to have your eyes to see, ears to hear and also other conditions.

Different mediums:

The way connections make can produce various forms

Afterwards people discovered that the speed of information delivering or exchanging has an upper limit, that means

it cannot exceed the velocity of light.

Consequently, people figure that the datum we get is no longer what we really want, but the cause of time delay. In other words, all the datas we had gotten were recorded in history which not have an absolutely ‘present’ information.

This is a narrow definition.

Outer Circle (signs of materials) the constraint from society

This is a global developing society filled with gorgeous materials. A tremendous number of people enjoy and profit from it, be thankful for it. Consequently, people have restricted by the physical-social environment. As the materials be richer, the desire for them be stronger which bound the people’s hearts and make them neglect their beliefs and the value of their lives.

To describe the constraint from outside to inside, we tried to create an interacting model to paraphrase the phenomenon and tell the audience something to change. The powerful tech- nique of expression to show the constraint from materiality of society to human and individu- al desires to human is to form circle by circle.

We arranged a sequence of signs that represent the luxury brands, jewellery, power or other attractive materials on outer circle of the installation. The 12 signs form a shape like a clock to stand for the time filled with materials in people’s daily lives and restrict them.

Inner Circle - outer layer the constraint from people

We created a layer of cover sheets close to the outside of the inner circle which represent the con- straint after material desire pro- duce in people’s minds.

Inner Circle - inner layer the origin of human nature

For turning the constraint from society to individual, we’ve shrunk the modelling of continuation of the outer circle and adjusted it into a golden ratio position.The inner circle was inspired by zoetrope in the inception phase of films’ development which was defined as the origin of human nature. There- fore, it’s enclosed by crosses.

The Light and Shadow of Outer Layer In a circular movement, the cover sheets cut the light from the light source and make the cross indistinct.

The audience have to focus carefully to catch the cross.

The Overall Light and Shadow When turn the light and rotating motor on, the light and shadow performing in between the circles. The outer signs by vision correction cast light on baseboard and make them more clear. In contrast, we cannot see the cross easily, the kind of attenuation symbolise that we attracted by the materials and neglect the beliefs and value of our lives.

Constraint The idea of the Constraint installation comes from exploration for a human life wrapped up by layers of material desires.

Since we got birth to the world, that pure heart and mind acted like an energetic light ray with thirst for knowledge and strike the warm brightness forward.

How time flies, the 12 o’clock time ring form by infinity

desires’ signs under common customs always attracts our eyes to the outer circle and makes them stop at the surface of gorgeousness. Alusia, hesitation obscure our perception to the simply sacred nature.

We need to calm down and develop the real nature in our minds by hearts. When the light source recede, it’s more clear to see the right direction.

The shape of the model was inspired by zoetrope in the

inception phase of films’ development. In a circular movement, the discs rotates and cuts the lighting effect from the light source, the powerful core radiate its light and heat. What we see is the brilliant light and shadow which one has already been proceeded into complicated formation by outer boards.

Can you see the cross? the pure one, the pattern on the inner boards are set down as low as possible so that the light effect shown inside the outer space. Cross is defined to belief, nature, love and other pure ones. It acts like a pointer in the light effect and tell you what is better.(the peace in the circle)

Under the abundant culture of Islamism, I tried to figure out what’s the logic among its complicated geometry patterns and found out something experimental but stunning eventually.

As time goes on, Shapowei has changed its face for an array of times.

- It was served as the ďŹ eld of practicing the soldiers by Koxinga in Ming dynasty.

- It was served as the port to welcome army from Britain.

- It was served as the ďŹ shing port to provide seafood to people.

Shapowei Shapowei is in the southwestern of Xiamen Island which has a only sea gate to make the ďŹ shing boats in and out. After Yanwu Bridge completed building up, it comes an amazing phenomenon, this gate will close and open with the tide up and down.

,better known as the word: Fisherman or Houseboat, who live in middle and lower Min River of China.

They spent most of their whole life on the drifting boats, regarded the ďŹ shing boats as their home.

In the leisure time when they went ashore, producing plank boats by ancestral craft became another making living way for them.

They would sell the plank boats out for whoever need them.

Wang Yeh Boat was one of the fisherman’s significant sacred activity. Everybody would make Wang Yeh Boat together and then moved it to the beach, burned it to bless themselves save when working on the sea.

Environment Featur A Plaza served as the medium to connect D,C,F, which is an significant place that the crowds flowing and interacting.

To response to the Xiamen Craftsmanship Area, D space can be set as souvenir shop while beer bar with expanded platform forward the sea at the north position of D. Plaza A has South Min Opera activity in certain time, movable stands which sell commodities about fish and South Min culture can be set on it as well.

B Plaza served as port of distribution in the junction between design area and Shapowei Chi Bao. C space served as the node to link plaza A and B, strengthen the relationship with its context.

D space is defined as the transitional space in the border of planing area.

E space’s units stand in one line, all of them have one side to face the sea sight in Shapowei fishing port which create the continuity of view.

It can also has movable stands to attract people outside of the peninsula on Plaza B.

C space is full of cafes, clothes stores and any other commercial spaces to make it integrated on the ground floor.

E space has a good long sea view at the north side, it’s the best choice for hotel and fishing market.

a unit It’s a discarded dockyard which has a basic track for boats to slice down to the water. Fit for fish market to display. b unit It’s the apartment for fishermen before, the government had removed and relocated them to other residence. Best for hotel set. c unit It has a complicated structure with other outbuildings. Good for interesting space with systematic management.

BACKGROUND Cheng Long Wet Land locates in Yunlin county of Taiwan where near Taiwan Strait. This site was a cropland before, but was damaged by Typhoon Wayne in 1986 which caused sea inwelling.

Without farming, more people have chose to other city for living which left elders on this wet land.

It’s necessary to come up with ideas to give rebirth to this place, people come back and company with them.

Guan Shu Education Foundation provided the fund to Cheng Long wet land to ďŹ nd out a way to revive the economy.

This architecture designed by Jian Xueyi Architect which was also contributed by the foundation.
