A collection of Asian restaurants on Kingsway me and my friends have or haven’t visited.
We Should Eat There.
“We should totally eat at these places on Kingsway since we live close!”
“Yeah but we never end up going, we’ve only gone to a few. This time we have to go!”
Rated Five Stars By Me and My Friends
These are really great spots for a snack or dinner. I always stop by Chungchun with friends for a quick snack. My friend had an amazing birthday at Chocho, and I took thirty chocolates from there. Dolar Hotpot is a great dinner place to go with friends, and I also stole more chocolates again.
All three of these places have signs that caught my eye, they have super decorative letters that have different weights throughout the stroke modulation, which makes them super interesting to look at.

I had some bubble tea at Bubble Tea Desserts, and it was probably the best Bubble Tea I’ve had so far here in BC. My friend told me about Chicha San Chen, saying that it is actually Michelin guided tea, so the day I went to take these photos I stopped by and had tea from there. I don’t see how it’s Michelin guided, but it was good tea.
The signs of both these establishments have little modulation, yet with that being said they still have a bit of modernity to them with the overall style. Which works in their favor to attract customers from certain demographics. Especially with the importance of advertising on social media, these signs fit within that trendy mold.

Finding the Perfect Place for a Meal
Having too much choice makes it hard to decide.
Fish with you is so cute with the fishes kissing! One time me and my friend did almost get food there but we weren’t feeling fishy at the time. The scent from Saffron almost had me floating in the air, someday I hope to take my friends there. Unfortunately for Chirpyhut, it always looks like it’s closed so it looks like I may not be going there for a while.
I really love that the Fish With You sign, although it is the logo that is decorative, it works well in contrast with the very readable type. The other two signs are pretty high contrast which sets them apart from establishments nearby. It attracts attention even from afar, which is probably why these restaurants chose it.

All of these places I took photos off were actually pretty packed. Cuisine of the Philippines, Todak Todak, and Happytree House BBQ were actually in the same little restaurant strip mall. Maybe one day me and my friends will do a small food tour in one day (when we have the funds). Estea is close to me and based on the fun sign, creates a feeling that it will be a great place to go to.
Todak Todak’s sign caught my eye the most, mainly for the fun, modified script look that seems to be commonly used these days.
The letter D looks like a fun glyph which adds some weight to maybe even the way we may pronounce the name of this restaurant.

New Spots for Tea
Time
Steeping into the unknown one cup at a time.
I have a tea addiction and all these places look so good! The sign for Bubble World is fun since it has little boba balls in the sign. Mango Charming just sounds really appetizing. Nicetea also has such a cute sign with the illustrations. They all look like places with appetizing drinks because of their branding.

I find that all these signs feed into a particular vernacular that tends to be associated with social media, since I feel that these signs are ones you might find online as trendy, which makes sense why I may be attracted to this kind of type. It is pretty readable, but with the additions of the fun graphics around the type, it really sets them apart from other signs.
These look like more fancy tea places, I noticed that they seemed to be more busy, so I’m assuming it’s gourmet tea or something. One of my friends doesn’t like Sharetea since apparently they always mess up her order, but I’m sure they’d love to check out the other places, especially since they are close by her place. Eventually I’ll probably try all these places.
All of these signs are very classic to me, with the simplicity of them. Personally the serifed signs make the tea places look a bit fancier, and the san-serifed signs feel a bit more modern and casual per-say. With that being said, the serifed signs tea shops do have more of a gourmet menu, whereas the san-serifed ones have more everyday menu with fun flavors.

“You know what, this book is almost like an itinerary.”
“So we have no excuse to not go, espcially if everything is so close to one another.”
