THE LOOP ISKANDAR SPORT HUB MALL

INTRODUCTION Living in tropical climate region, the daylight is too bright which caused glare to the occupants.

Besides, building user prefers to use artificial lighting which provide them with the right amount of illuminance level to perform their task. Moreover, high heat gain causes building to increase its energy demand on cooling load.

Design strategies such as the building orientation, building form and massing, building planning and zoning, opening system, shading devices and interior surface brightness promote the optimization of daylighting and visual comfort for the user. By using Velux daylight visualizer as a simulator tool, it is proven that by designing atrium with the right glazing transmittance, atrium orientation and shading devices, the right lux level needed at the concourse area of the building can be achieved, Thus, the occupants are able to achieve visual comfort level and this contribute to reduction of carbon footprint.

DESIGN AIM To design a sports hub mall which optimize the daylight through building envelope design.

DESIGN OBJECTIVES 1. To demonstrate the minimum use of artificial lighting by utilizing daylight and avoid direct heat gain in the sports hub mall interiors.

2. To provide comfortable spaces for the user to purchase their sport equipment and for them to enjoy their sports activities.

3. To create dynamic spaces for modern, interactive lifestyle.

1. Site planning and orientation; Avoid exposure of openings to the intense solar radiation from East and West. The shading devices recommended may differ according to orientation.

2. Daylighting Designing with emphasis on day lighting should begin at the preliminary design stage . A good day lighting system should consider the following: 1. space orientation and organization; 2. physical {shape and size) and optical properties of glazing through which daylight will transmit or penetrate 3. internal floor, wall and ceiling surface properties (colour and reflectivity); 4. visual contrast between adjacent surfaces (e.g between walls and ceilings); and 5. protection from visual discomfort (e.g glare and silhouette) caused by external and internal building elements .

DA’WAH MOSQUE BUKIT INDAH COMMUNITY MOSQUE

INTRODUCTION The purpose of this study is to develop a proposal for the design of a mosque with the concept of da'wah in order to bring the community together. A research framework layout the understanding of da'wah in Islam. The Quran implies that da'wah was continuously approach as a Muslim to inform others about the truth. The architecture form and space are analyzed on how it can attract/ invite the community to come to mosque. Space syntax analysis for both VGA-connectivity and VGA-integration are used to further understand the space relation and this can determine how people will behave in the spaces. The characteristics of the case study is taken into consideration and applied as new proposed design mosque in Bukit lndah 2,Johar Bahru, Malaysia

DESIGN AIM To propose for the design of a mosque with the concept of da'wah in order to bring the community together.

DESIGN OBJECTIVES 1. To understand the concept of da'wah in Islam 2. To investigate the role of the mosque in community development

3. To apply the concept of da'wah in architectural design that will contribute to the community.

DESIGN ISSUES 1. The functions of the mosque is seen to be limited.

2. not a communal friendly (not space for local community to engage) 3. the mosque mostly fully occupied during Friday prayer 4. the misconception of mosque in community (only seen as religions Building not a community building)

Space Syntax –Visual Graph Analysis Description Based on the visual graph analysis, we are able to understand the space relation of active and inactive spaces.

Basement – Open active space in the center of the services are located at a less inactive space.

BASEMENT

Ground Floor – The mosque area is the most active area follows by the interactive gallery, community gallery and the multipurposed hall. The toilet and storage area inactive which is less visible. Therefore, it is a more private and closed area.

First Floor – The most active area is the community hub which include facilities such as the computer area, game area, community meeting rooms.

Second Floor – The library entrance has the highest connectivity but low at the interior. The reading area should be inactive space because it if function to provide more comfortable setting for the users to read.

CLQ PAVILION URBAN REST & RECREATIONAL CENTER

INTRODUCTION The purpose of the design is to provide a rest and recreation center for the urban dwellers surround the JBCC. Using the concept of third place in order to encourage oral, physical conversation among the society which had diminished by the creation of instant messaging application on modern technology. This building holds various activities from the needs of the people obtain from survey and site observations Malaysia

DESIGN AIM To design the CIQ Pavilion as social node which creates "third place" for the community in Johor Bahru city center.

DESIGN OBJECTIVES 1. To introduce relevant activities in the CIQ Pavilion which promote social integration in the community 2. To provide better accessibility for the community to use the CIQ pavilion as public space 3. To reintroduce the function and role of the CIQ Pavilion as 'third place' through architectural design.

DESIGN ISSUES 1. Lack sense of place. There is no public spaces for the urban community.

2. Lack of social inter action among the community.

TYPES OF ACTIVITIES

1. Necessary Activity occur despite of the quality of the physical environment. Examples of this activ ity are browsing, wa iting, smoking and walking

2. Optional activities depend to an important amount on what the setting has to offer and how it makes the user react and aware about it.

The better a setting, the more optional activity occurs and the longer necessary activity lasts.

Example of activities are eating, drinking reading and talking pictures, 3. Resultant activity is the fruit of the quality and length of the other types of activities, because it occurs spontaneously when people meet in a particular place.

Example of resultant activities are talking, watching and vendoring.

DESIGN ISSUES

THESIS STATEMENT The Johor Tourism Information Centre has been a white elephant due to it location which are far away from the transportation hub. Its function as a tourist center is not fully utilitise by the commuters which visit the Johor Bahru.

Thus the Johor Integrated Tourist and Commuter Center function as to improve the connectivity and accessibility within the Johor Bahru City Center vicinity for tourist activities .

DESIGN AIM To exploit the function of visitor and commuter center as a new social node in order to increase connectivity and accessibility which promotes tourist activity among the commuters of Johor Bahru.

1. JOTIC Location.

JOTIC located faraway from the CIQ. Distance from CIQ to JOTIC is approximate 1.2 km. The building is empty most of the time. Is difficult for the tourist and local community to get information about Johor and Malaysia tourism.

2. Morphology of Site No connector with the from future RTS (own immigration clearance) and the residence of Taman Kim Teng.

3. The people movement at the linkage between JB Sentral and JBCS is crowed during peak hours.
