Welcome For the past 10 years I have been coaching rep teams at Coast basketball. I have seen this club go from one team to multiple teams in each age group,boys and girls. The coast has so much talent to offer the game of basketball and I feel it¹s my duty to develop that talent through schools and at rep level. My goal was to use basketball as a vehicle to teach young athletes about the lessons we can learn from team sports that will later help them in life. Persistence, hard work, consistency working together in a team and that’s it¹s ok to make mistakes. The one thing I did not expect was the life lessons I learned from coaching youth. Patience, empathy and to be a role model for them on court and off. Basketball has grown so much over the past 10 years on the coast. I’m excited to be a part of it for the next 10 years and to continue to develop those that choose to participate in this amazing sport. I will continue to run Holiday program¹s, school skill sessions and rep teams to improve young athletes fundamentals. Northern Performing Arts offers a wide range of dance and performing arts classes to suit children and students regardless of age or ability. Our vision at NPA is to offer our students a warm and nurturing environment where they can grow and develop creativity, body awareness, coordination, technique, placement, control and above all things confidence. Our classes are fun and affordable as well as educational. Being a performing arts schools means we have a class to suit everyone! All Classical Ballet, Modern Jazz & Tap classes are taught in the ISTD syllabus. An international syllabus that is based in London. All ballet, jazz & tap students will work towards their ISTD dance exams which will fall yearly in August / September. Exams are extremely beneficial and are the best way to develop a strong technique & style. We also offer Contemporary exam classes in the NZAMD syllabus. All pre-school dance classes, hip hop classes, funk classes & musical theatre classes are open classes which means a wide range of dance & performing arts activities are covered in their class time and are ideal for students who do not wish to partake in exams. We also offer competition work for our elite dancers as well as troupe work, extension classes and acrobatics training. We have three exciting branches where students may attend our dance and performance classes – Birkenhead, Sunnynook / Milford & Whangaparaoa. TAEKIDOKAI MARTIAL ARTS Classes for children Our very popular junior classes suit children aged 4-12 years old. We teach a range of martial arts techniques aimed at developing both physical and mental capabilities. Children become stronger and more flexible while also learning co-ordination and improving their concentration. Children’s classes are designed to be fun as well as instructional. Children learn that physical activity can be enjoyable, and they learn good technique as well as self- discipline. Junior classes are structured to suit the learning needs of children. We don’t expect children to learn like adults. Our style is non-competitive, we don’t want children to fight each other to win, so you don’t have to worry about children getting hurt. All students learn to respect and help their fellow students and feel comfortable learning in a safe environment. New students are welcome all the time. Classes have a mix of beginners and more advanced students, each working on their own curriculum. Our graded system starts at white belt. As each grade is attained more complicated techniques are introduced. Each new grade is a goal and keeps students motivated and keen to come to class to learn new things and practice things learnt. You are invited to try a class and see if you like it. There is no obligation and no need to book. Just turn up to your nearest class and join in. You pay as you go and only for the lessons you attend. The first class is free.
