At Tanglin, our IMPACT Programme brings together every aspect of athletic performance and wellbeing to help our students reach their potential. From strength and conditioning to psychology, nutrition, and leadership, it provides the structure, expertise, and inspiration for our athletes to excel. This overview highlights the latest initiatives that support our talented young athletes.
Performance & Development
FITNESS TESTING
At Tanglin, fitness testing empowers students with a clear understanding of their strengths and areas for growth. This year, over 150 athletes took part in a pre-season testing day, supported by Singapore Physio and specialist VALD technology. Detailed profiles now guide training and help athletes set meaningful goals.
Squads such as Swimming and Gymnastics also benefit from targeted testing, with teams re-tested during Term 1 to track progress and celebrate improvement.
STRENGTH & CONDITIONING
Tailored programmes ensure Tanglin athletes are strong, resilient, and competition-ready. Teams in Netball, Football, Rugby, Touch, Swimming, Volleyball, and Badminton receive structured sessions aligned to key competitions such as SEASAC, Brisbane, and Dubai
U16 and U19A players also complete independent sessions in the school gym, supported by personalised programmes that encourage responsibility and athletic maturity.
EQUIPMENT & FACILITIES
We have repurposed space in the physio room to house new specialist equipment designed to reduce injury risk and enhance performance, including:
• Leg Curl/Extension machine
• Glute Ham Developer (GHD)
• Leg Press
ATHLETIC DEVELOPMENT (AD)
Spanning Years 4–11, the AD programme ensures every student receives age-appropriate training. Each cohort follows an 8–10 week AD block, supported by mini fitness testing and education on performance.
The new Junior AD gym provides younger athletes with a dedicated space, creating a clear pathway from Junior to Senior School sport and laying strong foundations for the future.
Support & Wellbeing
PHYSIOTHERAPY
Through our partnership with Singapore Physio, students receive expert care in recovery, rehabilitation, and injury prevention. Regular collaboration with coaches and PE teachers ensures safe returns to play, while pitch-side support at SEASAC and other fixtures provides reassurance for athletes at key moments.
NUTRITION
Building on the success of seminars with Amanda Lim, we are addressing key challenges such as fuelling around training. A Sports Nutrition Working Party, supported by research from our Health Centre, is developing strategies to support both wellbeing and performance across the school.
SPORTS PSYCHOLOGY
Sport is as much mental as physical. Youth sports psychologist Dr Jay-Lee Nair works closely with selected athletes through the IMPACT Programme, focusing on confidence, focus, and resilience. Parent workshops in Junior and Senior Schools also strengthen the holistic support available to families.
Leadership & Inspiration
STUDENT VOICE
New Team Captain visuals across campus celebrate student leaders, while our Captains and ViceCaptains now form a Sports Leadership group. Meeting regularly with the Director of Sport and Heads of Sport, this group ensures that student voice shapes the Tanglin sporting journey.
ELITE ATHLETE CLINICS
Tanglin athletes continue to be inspired by world-class role models:
• Adam Peaty (Olympic Swimmer) and the AP Race team delivered a clinic combining technical expertise with powerful insights on mindset and resilience.
• GB Gymnasts Claudia Fragapane and Kelly Simm shared their skills and experiences, sharpening both technique and mental toughness for our gymnasts.
• Our 19&U Basketball Squads were treated to a 3v3 training clinic by professional players from Europe and Canada. Marek Klassen, Attila Demeter and Filip Kraemer put our students through their paces and shared their expertise in a fun and demanding session.
New Opportunities & Pathways
TANGLIN GOLF PRACTICE FACILITY
Our new golf facility includes a putting green, swing analysis technology, and a netted driving range. It supports aspiring golfers training at a high level and provides an in-house practice space for the school’s golf teams.
NEW SPORT CLUBS AT TANGLIN
Football at Tanglin is growing with a vision to build a strong club identity:
• Tanglin Lionesses: Launched as a girls-only programme, with over 50 U12 and U14 players preparing for local and international competition.
• Tanglin FC: Two U7 teams now compete in the JSSL League, training twice each week, with plans to expand year on year. At the senior level, our U19 boys compete in the Equatorial Men’s League, gaining invaluable experience against older, more physical opponents. This exposure to the physical and psychological demands of men’s football is preparing our student-athletes for life beyond Tanglin.
The Tanglin Badminton Club aims to stretch and support our aspiring badminton players with 75 students from Year 4 to 13 joining sessions in the evenings and weekends. Tanglin coaches lead small groups in focused skill practice, with competitive sparring sessions for older students. Sessions are also attended by children from outside the Tanglin community as we aim to expose our own students to high quality training and match play.
COACH EDUCATION
A new Coach Education co-curricular activity equip our aspiring leaders with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to effectively support youth development. Sixth Form students support programmes such as the Lionesses and Tanglin FC, serving as role models for younger players while developing their own leadership skills.
DUAL PATHWAY RESEARCH
In partnership with Leeds Beckett University, we explored how student-athletes balance sport and academics. Findings showed Tanglin students train more frequently and carry broader extracurricular commitments than peers at other schools—evidence of both the strength of our programme and the importance of supporting balance through initiatives like IMPACT.
Tanglin students trained and competed more frequently than their peers at other international schools.
Tanglin students have very similar sporting demands outside of school compared to students in the UK.
These research findings underscore the breadth and depth of Tanglin’s sports programme, as well as the many opportunities available to students in each sport. At the same time, it highlights the importance of ensuring that students are supported as they pursue success in both sport and academics.
Looking Ahead
With new facilities such as the Tanglin Golf Practice Centre, the launch of the Lionesses, and the continued growth of Tanglin FC and the Tanglin Badminton Club, our sporting pathways are expanding rapidly.
Combined with enhanced support in physiotherapy, psychology, nutrition, and athletic development, Tanglin continues to stretch, challenge, and support our aspiring young athletes.
