Our Farm

At Tangletown Gardens Farm, we believe that Healthy Soil =

Healthy Plants & Animals = Healthy People

At our 142 acre farm in Plato, MN, we grow fresh produce & herbs as well as raise cows, pigs, chickens, and turkeys. This harmonious balance of animals and plants is essential to sustainability.

We focus on creating healthy biologically diverse soil through our fertility program, cover crops, and a diverse grazing schedule.

We do not use any toxic fungicides, herbicides, or insecticides. Every acre is nourished and cared for in a way that is good for future crops and the environment.

Regenerative Practices

Our fertility program is based on organic inputs such as compost, manures, liquid fish fertilizer, and unsulfured blackstrap molasses.

We use over 25 di erent cover crops on the farm, each with a specific purpose.

We grow many heirloom and open-pollinated seed varieties and never use any GMO seeds.

We practice minimal tillage. We only work the top few inches of the soil, leaving the rest undisturbed for better air and water movement, and ultimately, better biological activity.

Farm Animals

We raise Scottish Highland Cattle, Heritage Hogs, Bronze-breasted Turkeys, and Pasture-raised Chicken

Our cattle are rotationally grazed, and eat fodder (sprouted grain) that we grow in a hydroponic system in one of our greenhouses.

Our chickens live in a mobile coop that moves through the fields. They eat insects, worms, and vegetation, and deliver fresh organic matter that feeds our soil.

Our pork are heritage breed, including Berkshire, Large Blacks, Duroc, Red Wattle, Polland China, and Herford. They are raised on pasture with a diverse diet of whole grains.

Our meats are processed by small local butcher shops that we work with directly, including French Lake, Taylor Meats, & Pine Creek.

We average 15,000 lbs of food production per week during peak season!
