The Master of Science, Nursing & Interprofessional Leadership (MS-IPL), provides the nurse a theoretical and conceptual foundation of leadership, where leadership is considered from a professional as well as a positional perspective. The program emphasizes disciplinary understanding, knowledge, and practice through relationship building and inclusivity across stakeholders in creating a shared vision of health within communities, health care institutions and societal systems. Learners will develop experience and skills to navigate the complexities of the healthcare system within an interprofessional clinical and non-clinical environment to address gaps and healthcare inequities within a relationship-based care model.
The program is designed for individuals who hold a minimum of a BA or BS in a nursing or nonnursing major and whose career and educational goals include nursing practice at the Master’s level. There are two entry points:1). Pre-Graduate Option (PGO) for RNs with BA or BS in a nonnursing major, and 2). Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). The plan of study requires 30 course credits for the BSN entry and 34 course credits for the PGO entry. The program can be completed either as a full time or part time learner.
Graduates are prepared to assume diverse positions who effectively lead and promote health and healthcare delivery through interprofessional, collaborative partnerships across academic, clinical practice, business-related industries, and social-regulatory entities to transform the health care experience for best health outcomes for patients, families, and populations. At the completion of this program, the graduate will be able to:
1) Lead and participate in interprofessional collaborative team practice to address health and health care delivery throughout the lifespan and across populations. 2) Critically appraise, synthesize, and use the best evidence to resolve problems to improve health and health care processes for best outcomes. 3) Seek innovative quality and safety solutions through the application of system principles in project development, strategic planning, ethical decision-making to advance health equity. 4) Build inclusive partnerships across stakeholders using effective and culturally sensitive communication strategies. 5) Apply principles of cost-effective health care management and strategic policy planning to the decision-making process. 6) Engage in political and health care advocacy to mitigate disparities and inequities to optimize health. 7) Leverage technologies to facilitate solutions to improve health outcomes and optimize the health experience.
