to KNOW
two women focused on lifting others through beauty and fashion By Julie Tingley, KNOW Tampa and KNOW St. Pete/Clearwater
T
he mission of the KNOW Book + Tribe is simple: women empowering women, promoting collaboration over competition. The mantra is straightforward: “lift and rise.” There aren’t many “rules” when it comes to building the community, but one is a non-negotiable: No mean girls allowed. While the women that have joined the movement from across Tampa Bay, the United States and Canada represent diverse backgrounds and different industries, one common sentiment builds solidarity: Individually, we are strong,
but together, we are better. The women of KNOW St Pete | Clearwater and KNOW Tampa lead with this vision. My favorite example comes with the exciting launch of BAE Beauty Bar in St. Pete, a beauty sanctuary established with the everyday woman in mind. A second unique concept launch for Youfit founder Christy Stross (with partners Jessica Spencer and Rose Johnson), and a second location for established boutique owner Rachel Mazzuco, BAE represents a perfect collaboration of two business owners that embody the mission of KNOW to encourage the rise of women in the Bay.

HADEN REID If being an entrepreneur, attorney, wife and mother has taught Christy Stross anything, it is how to maximize her time by outsourcing what she can. As one of the masterminds behind the chain of 120 fitness clubs across 15 states, Stross struggled to find salons offering both hair and makeup services to help transform her jet-lagged self into the puttogether persona she strove to project. This void in the industry along with her empathy for the maxed-out “everywoman” inspired her to team up with partners and launch BAE Beauty Bar: an innovative hair and makeup “escape” and beauty sanctuary that invites its BAEs to hand over their primping to the professionals. While the blow-dry bar concept might read familiar, BAE’s makeup team is not. They specialize in any look from first-date-fresh to red-carpet-ready. Beauty memberships are designed to show that pampered doesn’t have to be pretentious, and “just because” is a legit reason to treat yourself to a smoky eye.

Owner and buyer Rachel Mazzuco founded haden reid in 2008 as an online boutique. Named after two of her sons, the store opened its first brick-and-mortar doors in South Tampa in the fall of 2013. Six years later, Mazzuco opened her second location in St. Petersburg inside the same space that BAE Beauty Bar occupies. Mazzuco joined the fashion industry for her love of fashion and to offer what’s now, next and not likely to be found anywhere else. Each season she travels to be inspired by contemporary collections from seasoned to emerging designers, and hand-selects each piece that hangs in haden reid.
