Meet The Author

Sanina was born in St Louis, MO, and raised by her mother and grandmother. As a young girl, just a young girl, she realized that words were her favorite reality. Reading captured her attention, but she soon realized that she could affect people in the same way that she was affected by the novels she read. She began writing poetry and performing in the contests offered at her school. Sanina's favorite genre to read is historical romance; however, she found that her writing was more erotic in nature. She found her niche in Lesbian Erotica. She found that her writing was more effective when she wrote about her innermost fantasies. Sanina would get lost in her world of fantasies as they made their way to paper. During 1998's DCBP Festival, Earl Fowlkes, the President of BLGPD at the time, met with the organizers of Black Prides from New York City, Detroit, Atlanta and several other cities to form the International Federation of Black Prides. That organization now has thirty members and serves as the principal body through which organizers find support, raise funds and share 14

best practices. More than two decades after the first DCBP drew 800 people to Banneker Field for a day themed "Let's All Come Together," more than 100,000 members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community of African descent and their allies have come to celebrate the beauty of a shared community and raise awareness and funding for HIV/AIDS in the name and spirit of Black Pride. ▪ New Orleans Pride June 2015
