Construction begins on gas pipeline project By MITCH SNEED Editor Cliff Williams / The Outlook

The entrance off of Brick Plant Road allows contractors to access the area where a compressor station is being built for the pipeline in the area. Work has started at the site since it is owned by the company and more work should be seen soon across the area.

In several locations across Tallapoosa County, heavy equipment can be spotted gathering as construction on a natural gas pipeline that has been in discussion for almost four years is set to begin.

The Southeast Market Pipelines Project is a joint venture of Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Co., LLC, Sabal Trail Transmission, LLC and Florida Southeast Connection, LLC. When complete, the expanded Transcontinental Pipeline will make it one of the nation’s largest

supply sources of natural gas. Sabal Trail spokesperson Andrea Grover said Friday that with the permit approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission as of Aug. 16, the way was cleared for construction to begin on Tuesday. “It has been a long process, that See PIPELINE • Page 7

Shaw read a proclamation asking “to immediately restore the practice of reciting the Pledge of Allegiance at the beginning of every school day to each of out public classrooms.” Cooper said he has no idea what the mayor is talking about. “The first I heard of this was at 11:45 after I got a call from a television station about the mayor’s press conference,” Cooper said. “I saw the

According to Alexander City Police officials and Alexander City Schools Superintendent Dr. Darrell Cooper, they were able to track the source of the post and have deemed that the threat was not credible. Details of how they were able to find the person responsible were not given, but a released statement at the

Alexander City Police Department indicated that they were assisted by the Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Department in the probe. Cooper said the post was tracked to an IP address in California, and it has been linked to a 12-year-old boy there. “We did have an increased presence See THREAT • Page 11

The driver of a Nissan Versa explains to a ALEA Trooper what happened in a Monday rollover crash on Elkahatchee Road. The car went up a bank and flipped, but despite airbag deployment and the roll, the driver was not injured. Troopers reported that during the holiday travel period, which began at 12:01 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, and ran through midnight Monday, Sept. 5, Troopers investigated five deaths – half as many as a year ago during that same period.

Law enforcement are still seeking the people they have identified as suspects in a Dadeville shooting that left five injured. “We have not made an arrest yet,” Dadeville Police Chief David Barbour said Tuesday. According to Chief Barbour, officers were called to the American Legion Hall on East Columbus Street in Dadeville at 12:29 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 28 on a report of shots fired and individuals injured. The hall had been rented to individuals for a birthday, Barbour said. Upon arrival officers identified five people who had been injured in the shooting.
