Budget passed, roof work bid approved By DONALD CAMPBELL Staff Writer

Dadeville has a brand new budget to work under for the upcoming fiscal year, while the roof at city hall will be receiving some much-needed repair work soon after the council took action on both matters at Tuesday night’s council meeting. “It’s a balanced budget,” Mayor

Wayne Smith said. “I want to thank each of our council members, our city clerk Ms. (Debbie) Minor and all of our department heads for working so hard on this.” After Smith offered up his thanks for everyone’s contributions, the council approved the budget for fiscal year 2019 in a unanimous vote. Councilman Dick Harrelson said the bids received for work on the city hall

roof had been opened last Thursday and, despite some initial confusion on if some of the contractors had the proper insurance to do the work, all were found to be compliant. After a brief discussion, the council passed a motion and approved a related resolution, awarding the contract to a company from Sylacauga to complete the work for a total of $16,500. “I want to commend you, Mr.

Harrelson and you, Ms. Minor, for your hard work in getting this done,” Smith said. Harrelson mentioned he has been informed there is also an issue with the roof at the Dadeville Fire Department building, with new screws needed to stop leaks. The council approved empowering Harrelson and Minor to accept bids for this project. See COUNCIL • Page A3

Family members of Elbert Clyde Wilson gathered in the courtroom of Judge Tom Young to hear Franklin Nathan Price Jr. plead guilty to Wilson’s murder. Price pleaded guilty to reckless murder and was sentenced to 30 years in prison. As part of the plea, Price will have to pay a yet to be determined restitution, something he Price mentioned to Wilson’s family in the courtroom. “There is one thing I would like to say,” Price said as he turned to face the victim’s family. “Restitution, that is material money. It comes every day and goes every day. A man’s life I took – I am very, very sorry. I am so sorry for y’all’s loss.” Assistant district attorney Kevin Hall told the court what evidence would show on the day of Wilson’s death. “On or about April 20, 2016, the victim in this case was shot by a .22 caliber rifle,” Hall said. “During the response to the incident and initial investigation, Mr. Price gave police erroneous information of a red vehicle that was never recovered and no record of the vehicle was ever recovered.” On the afternoon of the See PRICE • Page A5

If they are going to retire, they have to recruit their replacement.” Morgan has been with the department for decades but cannot recall how long outside of it just being the first couple of years he See FIREFIGHTERS • Page A5
