Five arrested, drugs and cash seized in narcotics bust STAFF REPORT TPI Staff
A Friday morning search of an Alexander City residence by the Tallapoosa County Narcotics Task Force led to the arrest of five people and the seizure of drugs, a vehicle and cash. According to a release by Sgt. Fred White, the Tallapoosa County Narcotics Task Force
along with Alexander City Special Response Group and K-9 Unit and the US Marshal Gulf Coast Fugitive Task Force executed a search warrant at a residence on Willow Drive in Alexander City. An early Monday morning crash near Wetumpka has claimed the life of an Alexander City man. According to a release from Cpl. Jesse Thornton of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, 44-year-old Steven Glenn Towns of Alexander City was killed in a 5:30 a.m. crash on Fitzpatrick Road, about six miles from Wetumpka. Officials say that Towns was killed was killed when the 1989 Chevrolet Blazer he was driving left the roadway, struck a mailbox and overturned. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, officials said. Towns, who was not using a seatbelt, was found unresponsive by first responders and was later pronounced dead at the scene. The Alabama State Troopers said that the investigation into the crash remains active and no further details were made available Monday afternoon.

CAT SAVES COUPLE Dadeville couple survives house fire after pet’s warning By CLIFF WILLIAMS Staff Writer
A family pet is credited with saving the lives of a Dadeville couple as their home burned Friday morning.
“The cat saved them,” Dadeville Fire Chief Keith Wilkerson said. “The cat jumped on the bed and woke them up. They sat up and smelled smoke.” Wilkerson explained the

The long-time organist at First Baptist Church of Alexander City, Claire Nell Fuller passed away Wednesday morning at Russell Medical Center. Dedicated to her musical craft, she played the organ and the keyboard at First Baptist right up until the final few weeks of her life. “She was our organist for around four decades or so. Jim Pearson students learn about showing kindness By DONALD CAMPBELL Staff Writer
The students and teachers of Jim Pearson Elementary School filled the school gymnasium Friday afternoon for a special assembly, NED’s Kindness Adventure. Run by the Seattle-based organization All for KIDZ, NED’s Kindness Adventure teaches students about the culture of Kenya and how to show kindness to others, no matter how different they may seem at first. “We have four performers who go all over the country, putting on 10 performances a week, 48 weeks a year,” said Mallory, the performer who led the students on their journey to East Africa.
