MOORE OR STRANGE? STAFF REPORT TPI Staff

A man who took the back door to a Senate seat and touts being in lockstep with President Donald Trump or a devout Christian with a track record of defiance when he feels the law gets in the way of his moral values. That’s the choice that Alabamians face on Tuesday. Alabama voters who are either registered members of the Republican party

or cast ballots in the Republican primary during the Aug. 15 election will be returning to the polls on Tuesday, placing their vote in the Republican run-off election between former Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court Roy Moore and former state Attorney General Luther Strange. The winner of this run-off will go on to face Democrat candidate Doug Jones in the special election Dec. 12. In a race that has been far from clean due to allegations of questionable

conduct and comments that have been claimed as being misinterpreted, Moore and Strange have presented the following platforms to the voting public: Roy Moore: The former Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, the Etowah County native was removed from the bench twice, and has stated he retired from the judiciary in order to seek this seat. Orders being taken for ACPD Breast Cancer T-shirts

Russell Medical holding fundraiser Foundation giving away 30 guns in 30 days, could raise $100k

By MITCH SNEED Editor

It’s become a fall tradition with the Alexander City Fire Department and this year the first responders are again raising money to help those battling Breast Cancer with their annual T-shirt sale. “The Alexander City Fire Department and its employees are happy once again to help in the effort to defeat cancer,” said Capt. Jeff Brewer. “All profits from the sale of the shirts will be donated, so please join in the fight. Our Firefighter/Medics will be wearing them throughout the month of October and we hope you will join us. We love to see our shirts around town.” Brewer said the department is handling the sales a little differently this year. Until Tuesday, Sept. 26th, the department will be taking pre-orders for the shirts. This year only short sleeve shirts are available in sizes from Adult Small to 4XL. The cost is $12 for most sizes but any 3XL and 4XL shirts ordered will be $14. Brewer said it’s easy to place See T-SHIRTS • Page 3

The Benjamin Russell Wildcat wood carving is unveiled Friday afternoon during the high school’s pep rally.

Friday’s pep rally at Benjamin Russell High School was arguably the loudest pep rally of the year so far, as the students made their school spirit heard in preparation for Friday night’s game against Opelika High School. In addition to the usual cheers, a brief talk from Coach Danny Horn and the introduction of the game’s captains, there was a special presentation from the general manager of

Hunting season is here and the Russell Medical Foundation is raffling off 30 guns in 30 days. “We are doing a fundraiser called 30-30,” Russell Medical Foundation Executive Director Tammy Jackson said. “ We are giving away 30 guns in 30 days. Hunting season is coming up and everyone wants a gun. There are some really nice guns.” These are not the Marlin .22s many teenagers have used. “We are purchasing $40,000 worth of guns to give away in November,” Jackson said. Jackson is working with long time friend David McGirt of Lake Martin Machine Gun to help with the selection. “You will have to work hard to find a low light,” McGirt said. “If you do a Google search for the top 10 deer rifles, the top 10 shot guns for this year, they are there. It is kind of like your fantasy football for shotguns and rifles.” McGirt was instrumental in the selection of the guns. “We wanted to make sure the winners were getting the quality
