After several weeks of buildup and anticipation, the traveling Smithsonian exhibit, “Water/Ways,” one of several exhibits available through the institute’s Museum on Main Street series, officially opened in the lobby of Alexander City City Hall Thursday morning. In one corner, a touchscreen display examined the power water has on the world and human life, including why the ocean is important, what the water cycle is and how writers like Mark Twain and Henry David Thoreau were influenced by bodies

In recognition of her 27 years as the group’s secretary as well as her most recent birthday, the Dadeville Kiwanis Club threw a special party in honor of Betty Hayes during their meeting Thursday afternoon. The fellowship hall at First Presbyterian Church was decorated with balloons and streamers everywhere while Kiwanians, Key Club

A third man has been arrested by the Dadeville Police Department in connection with a Sept. 28 killing in Dadeville just after 9 p.m. Wednesday. Black Tavorick Laquaz “Qua” Black, 18, of Dadeville, was arrested and charged with murder. No bond was set Wednesday evening. The arrest of Black is the latest development in the investigation in the murder of John Farrel Adamson, 27, of Jacksons Gap in a Sept. 28 incident on Jah Street in Dadeville. In the incident, 37-year-old Gerald Haggerty was also injured by gunfire. Haggerty remains in a Columbus, Georgia hospital in stable condition, officials said. Before Black’s arrest, Dazmon Notorious Shaw, 22 of Camp Hill turned himself in last Saturday and was charged with murder. Bond was set at $250,000. Along with the resources provided by the Smithsonian, there were informational displays set up by the exhibit’s partners.
