A significant increase in the number of students in Reeltown was enough to boost enrollment in Tallapoosa County Schools by 81 students, from 2,859 last year to 2,940 this year, according to enrollment numbers released Monday by the Tallapoosa County Board of Education. “Our enrollment is going in the right direction,” said Joe Windle, superintendent of education for Tallapoosa County Schools. “We are pleased with that and hope to see it continue.” Enrollment at Reeltown See ENROLLMENT • Page 7

The Alexander City City Council will hold a special called meeting today at 9:30 a.m. to make sure that government operations can continue. Council President Jim Spann announced Monday night that the current council felt that it wasn’t appropriate to pass a new budget until some of the financial issues that have been lingering were cleared up. The City of Dadeville will have an entirely new group as council and mayor following Tuesday’s runoff with Wayne Smith defeating current council member Frank Goodman for mayor. Smith garnered 420 votes to Goodman’s 344. “I feel good,” Smith said. “I want to thank all of my supporters, my family and my friends. Without them this would not be possible. I want to thank Mr. Goodman for running a good, clean campaign. Smith thinks Dadeville has more opportunities to succeed than challenges
Jim Nabors will be the next mayor of Alexander City after taking a runaway victory in Tuesday’s runoff. Nabors rolled to victory over incumbent Charles Shaw, taking 2,481 vote to Shaw’s 907, a margin of 73.2 percent to 26.8 percent. For Alexander City City Council, Bobby Tapley held his seat in District 1, beating challenger Steve Crowe 357 to 211. Tapley finished with 62.9 percent of the vote. The runoff for District 2 was a close one, but Buffy Colvin emerged as the winner over Jacob Meacham by six votes. Colvin had 273 votes to Meacham’s 267. Nabors gave thanks to his family, friends and supports and said he is ready to start working to get Alexander City back on track. “I was overwhelmed by the support,” Nabors said. “There are eternal optimists, but I always worry.
