A young woman who was well known in the community lost her life Thursday after a single-vehicle accident on Coley Creek Road. Denishia Glenn, 22, of Alexander City was pronounced dead at Russell Medical Center Thursday morning, following an early morning crash. According to Alexander City Police Chief Willie G. Robinson, the 2013 Toyota Corolla driven by Glenn appears to have left the roadway on one side before over correcting and crashing on the opposite side of the road. “The call came in at 5:29 Thursday morning and when we arrived it was a single-car crash,” Robinson said. “It does appear that she may have went off the road and then in an effort to get back on the road it led

Members of the Alexander City City Council got their first glimpse of a draft of the city’s Fiscal Year 2017 Budget Thursday. Members were given the draft budget by City Finance Director Sandra Machen. The numbers include draft expense calculations provided to Mayor Charles Shaw by department heads. The document does not include detail of changes in the salary expense or any changes to grade level, additional positions or job changes. We knew $535,000 was a big number, but we are going to make it. “It is amazing what everyone associated with this campaign does to help people right here in out community. The money raised stays right here at home and truly makes a difference in people’s lives every day. Lake Martin Area United Way’s 2017 “Picture a Brighter Future” fundraising campaign is at 20.41 percent of its $535,000 goal. That announcement was made Friday morning at a Campaign Update Breakfast at the United Way Headquarters in downtown Alexander City. United Way Executive Director Sharon Fuller announced that the campaign has raised $109,208.08 as of Friday morning, with only a fraction of the presentations to area businesses having been held. “This is a great start,” said Fuller. “I can’t thank everyone enough. From our board, the agencies, the volunteers,
