Plan in the works for retail center

Three-phase, multi-use development could begin construction next spring By MITCH SNEED Editor

A local couple have taken the “if you build it they will come” philosophy to a new level and they hope that they are creating a business version of a ‘Field of Dreams.” Angela and Dion James of D&A Investments are working to transform a more than 50-acre parcel that sits between Highway 280 and Washington Street into a multi-phase, multi-use development that will be unlike any other in the

area. Residents may have noticed grading and clearing recently along the westbound lanes of Highway 280 near Walmart. That’s where the couple plan to create a sought-after location for new businesses, residents and professionals looking for a fresh, new home. Lake Martin Village will feature a Highway 280 outparcel suitable for a larger retailer or restaurant, 14 business storefronts in the first phase See RETAIL • Page 3

MONTGOMERY – The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is set to begin enforcing the Alabama Mandatory Liability Insurance Law (Act#2016-361). Last year, during the 2016 legislative session, the law was passed and signed by the Governor to mandate all Alabama motorists have liability insurance. Beginning Wednesday, Nov. 1, those who choose to drive without liability insurance will face a civil penalty. The MLI law provides that no person shall operate, register or maintain registration of a motor vehicle designed to be used on a public road or highway unless it is covered by a liability insurance policy. Madix using storage facility in Alexander City By CLIFF WILLIAMS Staff Writer

Signs directing Madix trucks to a location in the former Russell complex have recently appeared. According to Steve Robinson, Madix manager for manufacturing, engineering and quality, it is a move to help the company with storage space. “We set up an agreement with Aprinta for 50,000 square feet of warehouse space,” Robinson said. “It is a month-to-month agreement.” The signs help truck

Today’s

drivers find the new Madix facility in the Russell complex and lead drivers to a loading dock. Madix produces shelving for stores and warehouses and currently has manufacturing facilities in Goodwater and Eclectic as well as in Texas. Robinson did not rule out another plant but said for the time being the space in Alexander City would be used as a warehouse only. He also said it was good for several reasons. “It helps us out,” Robinson said. “It helps Cliff Williams / The Outlook them (Aprinta) out. It helps the community out.” Signs like this one direct truck drivers to a new Madix warehouse in Alexander City.

Jacksons Gap traffic case dismissed in circuit court By CLIFF WILLIAMS Staff Writer

Judge Tom Young dismissed a March Jacksons Gap traffic case that had been appealed to Circuit Court after Jacksons Gap representatives failed to appear in court twice. “I find it problematic and prejudicial for the defendant to come back a third time,” Young said from the bench Wednesday morning. “Case dismissed.” The case stems from a traffic citation issued to 23-year-old Jacksons Gap resident Michael Allen Crouch for failure to stop at a stop sign on Madwind Road at 10:30 p.m March 24.
