Lake Martin Animal Shelter is again teaming up with Emporium Wine for a gala wine tasting to support the local Humane Society. Emporium Wine previously hosted an art auction featuring animal subjects that was a big success contributing over $5,000 to the shelter. “We wanted to do something a little different this time,” said Emporium Wine owner Henry Foy. “The auction in 2013 centered on art; this year the event will focus on wine. Our distributors are generously donating their time and over twenty-five wines for the benefit.” “A typical wine tasting generally consists of four to six

Have you been looking for a building with a downtown presence in a high-traffic location? If the Alexander City City Council approves an ordinance on the agenda for Monday night’s meeting, there could be a chance to bid on a property with all those qualities. Due to other obligations, his brother Tom was unable to join in, but this did not prevent Campbell from playing his music and bringing smiles to the faces of the Kiwanians in attendance. “Most of the tunes I play are Americana and ballad-type songs,” Campbell said. “When I come, I always enjoy it.” Dedicating his set to Kiwanis
Club icon Betty Hayes, Campbell’s performance had a number of the club members in attendance feeling a little bit better, despite Hayes’ absence. “I can’t think of anyone who makes me more proud to be a Dadevillian than Betty Hayes,” Campbell said. Thursday’s music began with “The Weight” by The Band, then continued with “Wagon Wheel” by Old Crow Medicine Show, John Denver’s “Back Home Again,” “Angel Eyes” by Willis Alan Ramsey, which Campbell described as being one of his favorites, the cowboy song “Goodbye Old Donald Campbell / The Outlook Missoula,” concluding with the Arlo Guthrie hit “City of New Local musician Matt Campbell picks out a tune on his guitar during ThursSee KIWANIS • Page 11 day’s meeting of the Dadeville Kiwanis Club.
