Community says thanks to local manufacturers Lake Martin Area Economic Development Alliance holds appreciation breakfast event
By MITCH SNEED Editor
The Lake Martin Area Economic Development Alliance said thank you to local industries Thursday morning with an Industry Appreciation Day breakfast held at the Betty Carol
Graham Technology Center on the campus of Central Alabama Community College. The breakfast was to mark National Industry Day, but LMAEDA Executive Director Don McClellan said they appreciate them year round. “This is always one of the
most satisfying things we do,” McClellan said. “It’s a day when we get to remind all of our industry partners how much they mean to us and to this community.” The room was filled with exhibits with products made See INDUSTRY • Page 9

Email scam using state board’s name to lure victims
Dadeville holds on grant opportunity
STAFF REPORT TPI Staff
Scammers are reportedly using the name of an obscure state board to attempt to rip off unsuspecting residents. Residents are receiving emails, purported to be from the Alabama State Board of Public Accountancy (ASBPA), that request sensitive personal information or business information. Many of those receiving the requests are professional members who are licensed by the board, but some are out of state individuals who have no affiliation with the board, according to a release issued by Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange. “Recently, several emails have been sent by what appears to be an ASBPA email account requesting personal and/ or business information,” the board stated in a message to the members it has been able to notify. “Some of these emails contain attached documents or links to download documents. These emails are not being sent from the board and you should not download or open any attachments or click on any links contained therein.” The board is not currently requesting any information from licensees, and in the aftermath of a similar situation in August, the ASBPA assured that it would never request sensitive information through email. If someone receives a request for information and has any

It appears that a request to find funds to help purchase a new fire truck in Dadeville will have to wait. At Tuesday’s Dadeville City Council meeting, Fire Chief Keith Wilkerson asked for permission to apply for grants for equipment and a new fire truck. “These are FEMA fire grants,” Wilkerson said. “This will likely be available for only one or two more years.” Wilkerson also informed the council they applied for one of the grants last year and did not receive it, but would like to reapply, and that the other would be for a new truck for Station 2. “We want to replace the 1978 Mack Truck at Station 2,” Wilkerson said. “We want to get a shorter truck than what we already have so that it will have an easier time on some of the streets around here.” Wilkerson told the council
