Afternoon fire destroys Goldville Road home By MITCH SNEED Editor

A New Site family lost virtually everything in a Monday house fire that reduced the Goldville Road home to rubble. Volunteer firefighters from New Site were called to the

home at about 1:30 p.m. Monday. Dawn Foster, who lived in the home with her husband Travis had been asleep inside when the fire started. “I was gone and she had been fighting a migraine and had laid back down to see if it would ease up,” Travis Foster said Monday

as he stood next door and watched firefighters put water on remaining hotspots. “The dogs were barking and woke her up. When she opened the door to see what was wrong the house was already full of smoke. I’d hate to think what would have happened See FIRE • Page 9

With picture-perfect weather and a festive atmosphere, the 36th Annual Alexander City Parks and Recreation Department’s Oktoberfest will be remembered as one of the best ever. Thousands visited the Charles E. Bailey Sportplex Saturday for Oktoberfest as

the park was filled with people all day. Vendors reported solid sales, children laughed and played and the sights and smells of fall were in the air. In addition to the many vendors selling arts, crafts and other specialty items, the festival featured a classic car show, a children’s play area, entertainment, food and more. The purpose of this meeting is to canvass the votes and officially declare the winners in each of the three races that were on the runoff ballot. The canvass process is required by Alabama law. No surprises are expected to the vote totals that were reported on Oct. 4. In these races, Jim Nabors rolled to victory in the mayor’s race over incumbent Charles Shaw, taking 2,481 vote to Shaw’s 907, a margin of 73.2 percent to 26.8 percent. Alex City’s Fuller hopes to sing, act way to stardom By DAVID GRANGER Staff Writer

If Ke-Ke Fuller has her way, she’ll be coming soon to a compact disc – or maybe a small or big screen – near you. Or, as in her fondest dreams, both. The 21-year-old Benjamin Russell High School grad- Fuller uate, now a student at Clark Atlanta University, has already made a bit of a mark in music and, as a theatre major, is working toward perhaps an even bigger mark as an actress.
