Re-enactors from across the Southeast will embark on Tallassee late this week and into the weekend for the 19th annual Battles for the Armory re-enactment at Gibson’s View Plantation on Riffle Range Road. The event begins Thursday and runs through Sunday.

The Tallassee Armory Guards will hold the annual “Battles for the Armory” at the historic Gibson’s View Plantation on Rifle Range Road in Tallassee on Nov. 10, 11, 12 and 13. Thursday will kickoff the four-day weekend with a

school day where students from Tallassee and surrounding areas can see what life was like for people during that period of time. Students will be taken back in time as they walk through a guided tour of hands-on demonstrations and on-site examples of day-to-day life during war times. See BATTLES • Page 12

Shortly before noon on Monday, Tallassee Police Officers responded to BB&T bank located on Gilmer Avenue due to a reported robbery. Upon arrival it was determined that an unidentified white male entered the business, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, camouflage pants or overalls and dark gloves. The suspect then made gestures to the clerk as he removed his hands from his coat pockets and leaned over the counter. He removed an undisclosed amount of currency from the drawer and fled out on foot. He was last seen traveling west on Gilmer Avenue in a green possible Toyota Camry or a Lexus sedan. The vehicle appeared to have reddish dirt all over the vehicle. The white male is described as being between 5-6 to 5-8 and of stocky build. At this point the Tallassee Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigations are investigating the events. Numerous surrounding agencies are assisting in the search for the individual and vehicle related to this crime. Tallassee awarded $450k Community Development Block Grant for sewers By CARMEN RODGERS Staff Writer

The City of Tallassee will soon be able to rehabilitate sewer lines in designated areas that currently cause major maintenance problems and repairs for the neighborhoods surrounding the Mill homes on the east side of the Tallapoosa River thanks to a recently approved CDBG grant. “This has been a long process, but we are grateful to receive this grant,” said Mayor Bobby Payne. “We are also grateful to everyone who helped with this process.” Jim Byard Jr., director of the

Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) presented the check to Mayor Payne Monday morning, which was also Payne’s final day in office. Incoming Mayor, Johnny Hammock was also present at the early morning presentation. “This is going to be great for Tallassee,” said Mayor Hammock, “I know this administration has been working hard to make this a reality for the City of Tallassee. I look forward to working with the council to see this project to Carmen Rodgers / The Tribune fruition.” Since 1982, ADECA has administered Jim Byard, director of the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) presented a $450,000.00 check to Mayor Payne Monday morning, which was also Payne’s final day in office.
