River Kids get grant to help expand 4-H program

Thanks to a grant from the Coosa Valley Resource Conservation and Development Council to River Kids in Tallapoosa County, area youth will have even more access to area rivers and creeks. Emily Nichols, a specialist with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, thinks the grant and River Kids are a great for 4-H, especially as 4-H looks to add to its programs beyond its traditional agriculture background. “I knew it would be a great fit for 4-H,” Nichols said. “It is connecting our youth to our waterways. We

Another Alexander City business has been victimized by a smash and grab burglary. Just after daylight Thursday morning, a passing motorist alerted Alexander City Police that a large glass entry door at the The Station’s Best restaurant at 977 Jefferson Street in Alexander City had been broken. “It appears much like the others, the front door was smashed and that’s how they gained entry to the interior of the business,” said Alexander City Police Department Det. Riley Foshee. “Without giving a whole lot of specifics, they were able to take some cash and other merchandise from the business.” Foshee said they through information gathered throughout the day Thursday, investigators have developed a person of interest in the case. “It’s still an active investigation,” Foshee said. “We do have a person of interest, but it is still in the interview stage at this point. We hope to have
