Alexander City’s Thomas Jacob “Toot Toot” Marbury Jr. is in stable condition at the University of AlabamaBirmingham Medical Center following surgery on a leg that was damaged when struck by a sports utility vehicle Sunday evening. Toot Toot’s brother Jack Marbury said that the 68-year-old had been at the baccalaureate service at Benjamin Russell High School and was walking home at the time of the accident. “He’s in stable condition, but he’s in and out of it because they are keeping him sedated due to the pain,” Jack Marbury said. “He had fractures in the bones in his face, broken ribs and his leg was busted up pretty good. “They had planned to do surgery on the leg Monday, but waited until (Tuesday) to allow some of the swelling to go down. The good thing is that when he’s awake, he knows you and they think in time he’s going to be fine. It’s been a pretty See TOOT • Page 11

It appears residents of Alexander City will have to wait a while before finding out if there will be criminal charges in the case of missing Lakewinds Golf Course funds. In an email shared with members of the Alexander City City Council, investigators with the office of Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange indicated that it could be months before a decision is made as to whether or not the case is pursued by his office. The email to City Attorney Larkin Radney from Brian Barksdale of the Birmingham-based accounting firm Carr, Riggs and Ingram, said investigators cited the AG’s involvement in other statewide cases including the probe into Gov. Robert Bentley’s alleged misuse of state funds to facilitate a relationship with former aide Rebekah Mason for the delay. The delay is the latest chapter in a story that has been a hot topic with area residents since it first surfaced in January. Questions into the golf course funds were raised by resident Wendell Scroggins at a council meeting on Jan. 25, alleging that a number of checks that patrons had written for goods and services at Lakewinds seemed to have been lost, never clearing the patrons’ See MONEY • Page 11
