The Tuesday crash of a single-engine aircraft near Dadeville claimed the life of one woman and left a man fighting for his life. Sheriff Jimmy Abbett confirmed that 66-year-old Jeannette Carol Currier of Daleville was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband, the 67-year-old pilot David Lee Currier was flown to Columbus Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition late Tuesday. Abbett said that the initial alert came in just before 1 p.m. after the Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Department received a call that a plane may be in distress over Tallapoosa County. ALEA helicopters were dispatched and were able to get a visual of the crash scene in a remote area off Slaughter’s See PLANE • Page 11

A man who was the face of law enforcement in the town of Camp Hill for more than two decades before being terminated in 2014 now finds himself on the other side of the law. Former Camp Hill Police Chief Roosevelt Finley Finley, 58, of Opelika, turned himself on seven charges of violation of Ethics Laws after an Alabama Ethics Commission investigation recommended criminal charges. Tallapoosa County Sheriff Jimmy Abbett confirmed Finley had been arrested and was released after posting a $100,000 bond. Abbett said since his office did not handle the investigation, he could not comment on the charges. As of Tuesday evening, court records had not been posted that would detail the allegations against Finley. Current Camp Hill Mayor Ezell Smith said Tuesday she was aware there had been an ongoing investigation, but did not know that charges had been filed or that Finley had been See ARREST • Page 7

Alexander City residents who were bracing for the start of major construction on Lee Street will have to wait another day or two. Officials with Gary Ingram Paving and Grading said that Thursday will be the day that work begins. “We had some issues getting all of our sub-contractors on the same page and mobilized for Monday,” Ingram’s Jeffrey Harte said. “So it will be starting on Thursday and we will start by shutting down two lanes of traffic.” See CONSTRUCTION • Page 7
