Firearms stolen from local business By CLIFF WILLIAMS Staff Writer

The Coosa County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a Saturday morning burglary at the Exxon on Highway 280. “An individual threw a rock through the glass of a front door,” Coosa County Sheriff Capt. Scott Hammond said. “He made entry and went straight to where the weapons were. He took 13 firearms and exited.” Hammond said a combination of handguns and long guns were taken. Firearms and Explosives is assisting in the investigation. “Due to it being a licensed gun dealer and the theft involving more than 10 weapons, the ATF is involved,” Hammond said. Video was captured of the individual who broke into the business between 2:45 and 3 a.m. Saturday. “We have some folks helping get images from the video,” Coosa County Sheriff Terry Wilson said. “That is all we have right now as it is still an ongoing investigation.”

Council takes on taxes and pay studies

Jones talks new cold case bill

The Alexander City City Council voted to increase the pay of some employees and decided to raise the city portion of a lodging tax to 10 percent to be voted on at the next meeting. Earlier this year, Alexander City Mayor Jim Nabors appointed an in-house committee to tackle the years-long issue of a pay study. Monday night the committee of Human Resources Director Kathy Railey, Finance Director Sandy Stanbrough and Development Director Al Jones presented the first phase of their findings. Among those findings the committee sought raises for those they felt were in immediate need to correct a problem or when they were drastically different See COUNCIL • Page 3

he Main Street Alexander City Farmers Market is open on Saturdays from 7 to 11 a.m. through October in the Broad Street Plaza parking lot. Area farmers bring their fruits and vegetables allowing the community to purchase fresh food. Some vendors have pork, beef and chicken while others have honey and fried pies. Boys & Girls Club offering shuttle from Jim Pearson STAFF REPORT TPI Staff

The Boys & Girls Club of the Lake Martin Area after school program will be offering a free shuttle service to one of the club’s local locations for the upcoming school year. After school lets out every afternoon, the club will be offering a shuttle service from Jim Pearson Elementary School to the Searcy Unit located at the Alexander City Sportplex Gym.
