Storms roll through area Rain brings needed relief, but also causes scattered damage By DAVID GRANGER Staff Writer

Thunderstorms over the past several days have brought much needed rain to Tallapoosa County, but not without causing some scattered damage. Tuesday afternoon just before 4 p.m. as a series of thunderstorms rolled through Alexander
City, crews were called to four separate locations where fallen trees had collected power lines. The worst of those was on Robinson Road where live power lines that were taken down by a tree fell on a car that had a woman and children inside. While there were some tense moments as Alexander City Police Department, Alexander
City Fire Department, Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Department and crews from the Alexander City Light and Power Department and Alabama Power responded to the scene, no injuries were reported. The road was shut down as power to the wires was cut and first-responders freed those inside the vehicle and worked See STORMS • Page 5
New financial technology gets high marks New card and check readers will streamline city processes By MITCH SNEED Editor
Alexander City is two weeks into use of new equipment designed to increase efficiency in customers making financial transactions with the city and so far the new process is receiving high marks. The new equipment was installed on June 21 to process financial transaction cards, but new check reading machines are set to go online Thursday. Area religious and government leaders, first-responders and residents from all walks of life stood shoulder to shoulder, hand in hand and prayed for God’s help in healing Alexander City, the county, the state and the country Tuesday night. A total of 179 people jammed the lobby of Alexander City City Hall and prayed

What better way to celebrate a silver anniversary than with the competitive jangling of silver spurs? That’s just what the Lake Martin Area Boys and Girls Club will do on Friday and Saturday, July 22-23, when it hosts two nights of rodeo at the Charles E. Bailey Sportplex. “We’re very excited.
