Area hospitals continuing to battle flu cases

Since the start of the new year, at least six flu cases have been reported at the Russell Medical Center Emergency Room. Tamiflu, above, can help treat the flu. Local health officials remind residents that it is not too late to get the flu shot.

With winter firmly settled in across Tallapoosa County, the conditions are ripe for more cases of the flu to continue popping up. The contagion could become even more widespread now that students are returning to school in both the Alexander City and Tallapoosa County systems. With this issue on the continued rise, local health officials are urging caution in an effort to keep the flu from spreading. Following a spike in late November and early December, at least six cases of the flu have been reported at the emergency room of Russell Medical Center since the start of the new year. “We noticed an increase right after Thanksgiving,� Russell Medical Center
