n THE FORECAST FROM ABC 33/40’s JAMES SPANN: Confidence is growing in the scenario tomorrow as models are in better agreement. The NWS has expanded the Winter Storm Watch southward, to include counties as far south as Sumter, Marengo, Dallas, Autauga, Elmore, Tallapoosa, and Chambers. The watch will be in effect from 6:00 a.m. tomorrow through 9:00 a.m. Saturday. Late tomorrow night and early Saturday morning, there is a chance of some sleet, freezing rain, or even a few snow flakes deep into South Alabama. Some chance all 67 Alabama counties could see a little freezing or frozen precipitation by Saturday morning when it all winds down.

Counterfeit bills reported to law enforcement

Tallapoosa County is under a winter storm warning in advance of anticipated winter precipitation that is expected to arrive as early as this afternoon and local officials are preparing for the worst. Snow, sleet and ice are all possible according to National Weather Service officials. “We have a major problem, we have something coming besides snow,” National Weather Service Meteorologist Kevin Laws told officials Thursday. “What we have not talked about is sleet and ice. The system coming from the Gulf is going to be an ice system for a lot of the state.”
Alexander City Police arrested a man they believe is responsible for the rape of a juvenile on New Year’s Eve. Joe Virgil Black, 57 of Alexander City was taken into custody shortly after 3 a.m. on Dec, 31 after he was identiBlack fied as a suspect by the female victim in the case. Tallapoosa County is expected to get some ice, sleet or some snow today. First responders have a few tips to make sure everyone stays safe while enjoying the rare sight.

Funny money is circulating in the area. Dadeville Police Chief David Barbour says there have been a few cases were businesses have accepted money that is not legitimate. What is being passed is play money – no this is not money from Monopoly, but from the movies. “In the last week or so several fake bills have shown up in the Dadeville area in denominations from fives to $100 bills better know as motion picture money,” Barbour said. “The bills are clearly marked motion picture.” Barbour said the bills started to circulate in Dadeville businesses last week and that they are looking into See COUNTERFEIT • Page 2

Horseshoe Bend teacher Felicia Williams has been honored nationally for her work with the Association of Career and Technical Education. Williams received the 2016 Outstanding Contributions Award at the organization’s VISION Conference in Las Vegas by the Family and Consumer Sciences Education Division. According to information from the organization, the honor recognizes “outstanding people who have served and supported the organization in exceptional ways.” “This award is a real honor for me,” Williams said. “My fellow FACS teachers nominated me and I’m thrilled to receive this National Award for my outstanding contribu-
tions.” Williams was recognized at the ALACTE (Alabama Association of Career and Technical Education) Conference this summer as the state nominee for this award. After ALACTE Conference, paperwork was submitted to the ACTE FACS Division Awards Chair for consideration. To receive this honor nominees must meet certain criteria. Recipients must be a member of the Family and Consumer Sciences Division, have made contributions to Family and Consumer Sciences and the FACS division of ACTE, have professional experience, and be involved in other professional organizations.
