The Alexander City City Council will start 2018 Thursday evening with its first meeting of the year and will consider a move that could give the residents even more recreational opportunities. Camp Hill funeral home sees suspension overturned By CLIFF WILLIAMS Staff Writer
Alabama Funeral Homes in Camp Hill saw a major part of state sanctions against it overturned on appeal after Judge Tom Young allowed fines to stand, but threw out a 30-day suspension of the home’s license. Firefighters bring family’s dog back to life after house fire By MITCH SNEED Editor
A
young couple saw its Jefferson Street home badly damaged by fire Wednesday morning, but the devastation was wrapped in a silver lining as Alexander City Fire Department firefighters freed their beloved German Shepherd from the flames and brought him back to life. A brick home in the 2300 block of Jefferson Street sustained heavy damage to the back corner of the home, but it could have been worse if not for an alert motorist passing by. Ken Cowart, a former firefighter who is now with the Red Cross and the Tallapoosa County-Alexander City Rescue Squad, was traveling on Jefferson Street and spotted the smoke. “I had been up in Clay County assisting a family that had experienced a fire,� Cowart said. “I looked over and saw heavy smoke
