n Alexander City Schools announced that classes will be canceled today. A decision regarding Thursday’s schedule will be made no later than 6 p.m. today. Plans are to announce news via schoolcast and on the system's social media platforms.

In anticipation of the winter weather arriving in the area, the Alexander City Public Works Department spent Tuesday taking precautions to help other departments and warning citizens to stay off the roadways. “We know the roads are going to be impassable at some point,� Public Works Director Gerard Brewer said. “We are not going to be able to do much at that point. The precipitation we get will likely freeze on the roads.� Other than that it was a waiting game. Both Alexander City and Tallapoosa County schools dismissed early Tuesday to get students and staff home before roads got bad. Alexander City, Tallapoosa County and Coosa County schools are closed again today. “All students delivered safely with no problems,� Alexander City Schools Superintendent Darrell Cooper said. “Schools will be closed Wednesday. Community Action Committee donates food to Crisis Center

In the weeks leading up to the Christmas season, the Community Action Committee of Chambers, Tallapoosa and Coosa Counties came together and took donations with which to purchase food for the Tallapoosa Christian Crisis Center. With this effort, the committee was able to gather up 310 pounds of food for the center, just in time for the holidays. “We do a needs assessment survey every year,â€?
