New finance director on council agenda Two Alex City residents finalists for vacant position

John David Loudermilk is in the Tallapoosa County Jail after his arrest by the Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Department Thursday night in on Lilly Lane Jacksons Gap. Loudermilk was wanted on charges stemming from an altercation in Dadeville. “We have charges of robbery Loudermilk first and domestic violence menancing,” Dadeville Police Department Assisstant Chief Chris Martin said. “The charges stem from a domestic situation involving family members.” Authorities say that a Kia driven by a man believed to the 23-yearold Loudermilk fled when the deputy tried to initiate a stop Wednesday near Horseshoe Bend School. Law enforcement officials believe they have struck a major blow to the flow of drugs in eastern Tallapoosa County as a joint operation netter multiple suspects including one described as a major player. Tallapoosa County Narcotics Task Forces Commander Sgt. Fred White said Friday that agents from the task force, the Tallassee Police Department, Lee County Sheriff Department K-9, Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Department and Alexander City Police Department Investigation Division executed a search warrant at a residence off Highway 50 in Dadeville on Thursday. Alabamians pay one of nation’s highest sales tax rates By MITCH SNEED Editor

Recently released statistics show that Alabama has the fourth highest combined sales tax rate in the nation. The Tax Foundation, a Washington D.C.-based independent tax policy research organization, compiled numbers showing that 45 states and the District of Columbia collect statewide sales taxes and 38 states collect local sales tax. Alabama’s 9.01 percent combined average ranked only behind Louisiana’s 9.98 percent, Tennessee at 9.46 percent) and Arkansas 9.30 percent. Alexander City could have a new finance director Monday night as the city council has that appointment on its agenda. Last week council members interviewed the two finalists for the position. Sandy Stanbrough, who held many leadership roles in accounting for the Russell Corp. and Lee Jones, an Alexander City resident who is a controller for a unit of automotive parts manufacturer Nemac, emerged from the original applicants and met with the council members in a public setting last week. While both were knowledgeable of accounting and had a passion for their work, their experience comes is different areas of expertise. Jones has been with Nemac for 16 years, seeing three changes in ownership. He has extensive experience in budgeting and managing tight deadlines in financial reporting for the publically traded company that has its international headquarters in García, which is Monterrey, Mexico. One of the things that stood out when Jones spoke about Alexander City, was the passion and love he said he felt for the town he has called home for more than 20 years.
