Suspects keep area lawmen running North end of the county sees high-speed chase, domestic arrest By MITCH SNEED Editor

Multiple law enforcement agencies experienced a hectic day Wednesday dealing with a high-speed chase and a separate domestic situation in the north end of the county. A Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Department deputy spotted a vehicle driven by a man who was wanted by the Dadeville Police Department near Horseshoe Bend School at about 7 a.m. Wednesday. Benjamin Russell graduate part of team awarded regional Emmy for story on UAB football team’s resurrection By MITCH SNEED Editor

A local woman’s passion for capturing moments on video and a subject that is very close to her heart helped place her in a position to claim a regional Emmy Award. Benjamin Russell High School graduate Kourtney Cowart was part of a team that produced a short documentary that chronicled the University of AlabamaBirmingham football saga. Cowart’s work was a big part of the Raycom Sports production entitled Ever Faithful — The Resurrection of UAB

Football. The team that produced the feature included Cowart, Richard Brooke, Maxwell Brooke, Jordan Smith, Timothy Alexander and Michael Shikany. The piece was awarded the Midsouth Regional Emmy for Sports Program Feature that recognizes excellence in a feature or segment on a sports topic. Former AU star deals with arrest on domestic charges By MITCH SNEED Editor

Former Benjamin Russell and Auburn University football star Eltora Sanchez Freeman turned himself into the Alexander City Police Department on Jan. 26 after an arrest warrant on charges of domestic violence was issued. According to Alexander City Police Department Interim Chief Jay Turner, the charges were issued after a 20-year-old woman filed a motion for protective order on the heels of an alleged altercation between the two on Jan. Carlisle Foundation bridges gap between clinic and in-home rehab By GEORGE LITTLETON AU Communications

Through a life of hard work, integrity, and brilliant corporate leadership, Dwight Carlisle earned the respect of everyone around him. He grew up in Alexander City, and commuted to Auburn to study textile engineering. He worked as a co-op student at Russell Corporation, the textile and clothing giant headquartered in his hometown. Upon graduation in 1958, he was hired full-time at Russell where he rose through the management ranks, learning every job in every plant, until he became the company’s president and CEO. his leadership. After 33 years he retired from Russell and was named the state’s revenue commissioner by Gov. Bob Riley. A longtime benefactor of his beloved alma mater, Carlisle was named an Auburn University Trustee in 2004. In the midst of his deep involvement in numerous academic and cultural affairs at the university and within the Auburn community itself, Carlisle suffered his third stroke on Christmas Day, 2010. He could not speak or walk. He made some progress in physical therapy but continued to struggle with basic movement and balance. The doctors told his wife Helen
