BUSTED: 4 taken down for drugs By MITCH SNEED Editor

Two separate incidents involving the Alexander City Police Department and the Tallapoosa County Narcotics Task Force led to the arrest of four suspects on multiple drug charges and the seizure of drugs, cash and a weapon. Monday, officers with the Alexander City Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding on Washington Street.

The vehicle continued traveling toward U.S. Highway 280, ignoring emergency lights and sirens. Officers were finally able to pull the car over in the parking lot of a pizza restaurant and upon approaching the vehicle they immediately encountered a smell that prompted a search of the car. Officers found 119 grams or a little more than four ounces of marijuana, two Xanex bars, $1,120 in cash and a .45 caliber pistol. Task Force agents responded to the scene to help process the evidence.

Tatashawn Green, 18, of Alexander City and 18-year-old Brittany Cooke of Sylacauga werearrested as a result of the find. Green was charged with possession of marijuana 1st degree, possession of drug paraphernalia, certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm, resisting arrest and attempting to elude. Cook is facing charges of possession of controlled substance, first-degree possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Mug shots of See DRUGS • Page 2

Tuggle: ‘Waiting to see more of that math’ on prison plan By MITCH SNEED Editor

An $800 million bond proposal to build new prisons in Alabama is the elephant in virtually every committee meeting room in Montgomery as the Alabama State Legislature works its way through the general session and last week Rep. Mark Tuggle updated residents on that proposal and more. Speaking to the Alexander City Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs luncheon, Tuggle said there no doubt a need to address issues facing the state’s prison facilities, but See PRISON • Page 11
