Vernon extradited, now in Elmore County Jail

Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin said Friday that Shane Vernon was being held in the county jail after waiving extradition Thursday morning while being held in DeKalb County, Georgia.

He said Coosa County Vernon Sheriff’s Office retrieved Vernon from Georgia and took him back to their facilities for the booking process.

The Georgia connection, the charges and his case there as a result of crossing state lines, Franklin said would be pending until a later date.

After his booking at Coosa County, Franklin said he was brought to Elmore County Jail for their processing procedures, where he was held as of Friday.

espite having a busy schedule over the next few weeks, Santa Claus took some time and visited the students at Jim Pearson Elementary School Thursday evening during the school’s annual Santa Dance.

“We’ve been having this for about the last five years,” Jim Pearson Principal Jamie Forbus said. “We used to do a Breakfast with Santa, but we ended up shifting it to this.”

“I didn’t get here until January, so this is my first Santa Dance,” Assistant Principal Windy Eldred said. “This is exciting. I’m enjoying it a lot.”

The school gym was filled with students moving excitedly to the music, a well-rounded mix of Christmas tunes and other dance music rocking from the loudspeakers, including Chuck Berry’s “Run Run Rudolph,” “Better When I’m Dancing” by Meghan Trainor and Silento’s “Watch Me.” Some students came decked out in ties and nice dresses, while others had on t-shirts, jeans and tennis shoes. It was supposed to be a simple step from the boat onto the dock for Jacksons Gap resident Duane Davis as he and his wife Gladys were taking their boat out of the water at DARE Park.

Next thing Davis knew, he was coming up from beneath the cool waters of Lake Martin gasping for air on a November day.

“I misjudged the step and fell, falling into the deep cold water at the end of the dock,” Davis said. “I went under and the cold water took my breath. I surfaced and started yelling for help.”

Since Black Friday, the red buckets have been set up around town with friends ringing the bells for the Salvation Army.

This year, they are at some new locations too.

“This year we are Walmart, Walgreens and Winn Dixie,” Salvation Army’s Tabatha Glassburn said. “We will also be at Dairy Queen Dec. 16 and Dollar Tree Dec. 23.”

Advocacy centers are a vital resource when children and families need help in overcoming the negative impact of abusive situations. Those living in Tallapoosa County who have suffered from being abused can turn to the Tri-County Children’s Advocacy Center, headquartered in Dadeville.

“Our mission is to provide healing and justice to the child victims of abuse in Chambers, Randolph, and Tallapoosa counties,” Executive Director Jacqueline Burgess said.

The Tri-County Children’s Advocacy Center offers its clientele several different services, all of which are valuable in helping young abuse victims overcome the issues that stem from being abused.

“We offer forensic interviewing, which is where we interview the reported victims of child abuse for DHR and/ or law enforcement. We do this in a child-friendly setting by trained forensic interviewers,”

Along with the services to help abuse victims heal and continue to live their lives, the Tri-County Children’s Advocacy Center also regularly visits local schools, presenting the SCAN (Stop Child Abuse and Neglect) Program. This program teaches students in third, fifth, seventh and ninth grades some of the more effective ways to stay safe from potential predators.

As a partner agency of the Lake Martin Area United Way, Burgess said this relationship had been highly beneficial to the advocacy center, and that the Tri-County Children’s Advocacy Center was proud to be a partner of the United Way organization.

Woman who faked cancer for cash headed to prison STAFF REPORT TPI Staff

A Shelby County woman who set up a GoFundMe account falsely claiming to be a cancer patient is headed to prison.

Attorney General Steve Marshall announced Thursday that Jennifer Flynn Cataldo, of Sterrett, pleaded guilty in Shelby County Circuit Court Thursday to two counts of first-degree theft of property by deception for fraudulently soliciting $38,080 from two GoFundMe accounts while falsely claiming to have cancer. She was sentenced to serve two years in prison.

Under the sentencing, Cataldo will serve two years for each count, running concurrently. Her state prison sentence will also run concurrent with her federal prison sentence of more than 25 months, handed down by a

U.S. District Court on Nov. 8.

“Those who prey upon the charitable intentions of good Samaritans not only do a tremendous disservice to those truly in need but also betray the trust of the community,” Marshall said. “This sentence should send a strong signal to others who may harbor similar intentions of deceiving the public’s generosity that there will be a price to pay for breaking the law.”

On April 13, the Attorney General’s Office began conducting a joint investigation with the Federal Bureau of Investigation into Cataldo’s solication of donations. The investigation of Cataldo centered around her use of two online GoFundMe fundraising campaigns through which she received more than $38,000 from donors wishing to assist her with medical bills and a family vacation to Disney. The investigation of Cataldo uncovered that her claim of having terminal can-

cer was false. With the assistance of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Cataldo was arrested May 4, 2017, on warrants from the Attorney General’s Office. The Attorney General’s Office also assisted the U.S. Attorney’s Office in their investigation which led to a separate guilty plea and sentencing earlier this month.

Marshall thanked the Attorney General’s Office Investigations Division as well as Assistant Attorney General Brittney Bucak of the Criminal Trials Division for their hard work in this case. Attorney General Marshall further expressed appreciation to representatives of GoFundMe for their assistance in the investigation. He also thanked the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Attorney’s Office North District of Alabama for their close cooperation in this case.

to get dressed up nice and all, that’s fine too. We don’t have any real guideline about that,” Forbus said. “Our main guideline is that our students and parents come out and have a lot of fun.”

When the students and their parents needed a break from the dancing, refreshments were available in the school lunchroom, while Santa himself was seated in a hallway just off the lunchroom, happy to be taking photos with the children in attendance.

“This is just a chance for the kids to come out and have fun with their parents and see Santa,” Forbus said. “It’s a chance to share the school family with our students’ families.”

The students themselves were very excited to be taking part, as the movement in the gym was virtually non-stop. Some students were dancing together in small groups, others were moving to the beat with their parents and some stood on the sidelines, waiting for the perfect moment to jump in and start dancing again.

“The kids love it. It’s a lot of fun for them,” Forbus said. “We love getting to see them have a lot of fun with their classmates and friends.”

Usually held during the first week of December, Forbus said the school moved the Santa Dance to the final day of November due to the multitude of upcoming events around town, believing this date to be the best possible time for everyone to come out and have a lot of fun dancing, spending time together and taking a photo with Santa.

“It gets our parents into the school, and we enjoy having our parents here,” Forbus said. “Everyone really seems to enjoy it.

We see a lot of smiles.”

Bust Task Force, along with the Alexander City Housing Authority, Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Department, Alexander City Police Department and Auburn Narcotics Division executed a search warrant on Friday at a residence on Thomas Road just off Coley Creek Road in Alexander City.

Thursday, Dadeville Police Department, Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Department and Jacksons Gap Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle for no tag.

The vehicle refused to stop and a pursuit ensued.

The suspect jumped out and ran, resulting in the officer deploying a taser. Officers recovered approximately 13 grams of crack cocaine, Lortab pills and a firearm. The suspect was apprehended without further incident and transported to the county jail.

Building Christmas memories can be painful

here have plenty of reasons for folks here in the Lake Martin community to celebrate in the last week or so.

From the opening of a grand new facility at Russell Medical to big accomplishments for sports stars with local ties, the headlines have been filled with great news.

Consider these items that have given local folks reason to be proud: • Russell Medical staff and board members and scores of those in the community who have come to depend on Russell Medical for their care gathered Thursday to celebrate the opening of the new 12,000 square foot building that will house four primary care doctors and 32 employees.

The facility is amazing and shows the commitment to the health of the community that Russell Medical has made.

As Russell Medical Chief of Staff and Director of Emergency Medicine Michele Goldhagen said at the ceremony, “Our goal is to make sure everyone in this community has their healthcare needs met,” Goldhagen said. “We think this facility will help us do just that.”

The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced that Owens was a semifinalist to be enshrined this year. The last two years the six-time Pro Bowler and a five-time AllPro selection was snubbed. Then Thursday it was announced that T.O. will be a member of the 50th class to be enshrined in the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. Owens will be joined by Dabo Swinney, Tim Hudson, Stewart Cink, Johnny Davisn Chan Gailey, Bill Jones and Kathy McMinn at the the Golden 50th Annual Induction Ceremony and Banquet will take place at the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel on Saturday, April 28, 2018.

• Alabama junior swimmer Robert Howard of Alexander City was named the SEC Male Swimmer of the Week recently after posting several incredible finishes at the Georgia Tech Invitational in mid-November. Howard, a Benjamin Russell graduate, had three victories and was part of five winning relays at the invitational.

• Former Benjamin Russell quarterback Bryant Horn who is now leading Jacksonville State University’s football team was named to the All-Ohio Valley Conference first team.

From days spent in the kitchen making fudge, cookies and candy, to making homemade gifts from wood with dad to decorating the tree, house and yard, we built traditions and created memories that we still talk about today.

As I aged and had children of my own, I continued to try to make the holiday season special. A big part of that was decorating the yard.

We always did some wild decorations outside at our house. We would hang lights all over in a manner that would make Clark Griswold jealous.

Several years ago, as I was stretching out the cords and checking the bulbs, I looked across the street and got an idea.

My neighbors actually had an old Bell helicopter on a trailer sitting in their side yard. Their son would barnstorm across the Southeast in the summers, jumping over the turning blades of the helicopter on his motorcycle at racetracks and fairs.

So I went and knocked on the door.

“Hey Jerry, I was thinking, you have that helicopter and it’s just sitting there collecting pine straw all winter, “ I said. “You want to have some fun?

Let’s put it in my yard and I will put all these lights all over it and let’s put Santa inside. The kids will love it.”

I couldn’t believe he bit on that one, but we pulled it over on the trailer and unloaded it in the

middle of the yard. In no time flat we had rounded up red sweats and were stuffing them to make a life-sized jolly old elf.

We had every inch of that sucker covered in lights.

I’m not talking about the small ones, I mean the old school big ol’ bulbs.

That Santacopter combined with all of the other tackiness we were the talk of Riverdale. There wasn’t a night that went by when there wasn’t bumper-to-bumper traffic on Allison Court. After that year, we were known as “the Sneeds, you know those people who had Santa and the helicopter in their yard.”

The kids are now grown and do their own decorating, but I have continued to try to do something that will make the neighbors talk about “those redneck Sneeds who have enough lights to land a plane in their yard and are the definition of tacky.” I’ve heard them talking.

I’ve had Santa on a SeaDoo in my yard, Santa driving a rusted out red Dodge truck and a yard filled with pallet Christmas trees.

This year, I have already broke bones and concussed myself in the name of Christmas.

Remember when John Thompson and a cast of volunteers spent all weekend with the Renew Our Rivers Cleanup? They did an incredible job and of course we went out to cover it.

I rolled up to the boat ramp at Wind Creek at

the same exact time a pontoon full of volunteers and trash floated up.

Right on top of the heap was a bright red canoe with just a little hole in the bottom.

The light bulb lit brightly over my head.

“Santa sure would look good sitting in that canoe surrounded by Christmas lights in my front yard.”

So Thompson and Ken Holland pulled it out of the dumpster and helped tie it on the truck and I started home, smiling like a little kid on Christmas morning.

But unloading it from the truck wasn’t quite as easy by myself.

In an effort to unstrap the canoe I was standing on the side rail of my truck bed. That wasn’t a good idea. As the canoe was untied and started to come down, I stepped back to guide it. The problem was there was nothing to step back to.

After falling for what seemed like 30 minutes, where all could think of was “I’m going to die getting a trashed canoe that I got out of a dumpster off my truck.”

But don’t worry. The ground broke my fall and with the exception of broken ribs, some extremely ugly bruising and being a little swimmy headed, doctors say I will survive.

But this weekend, I hope to pull it all together and Santa will be paddling across my front yard in a sea of all the tacky Christmas splendor that I can scrounge up.

Building Christmas memories can be painful, but if just one child rides by and sees it from the back seat of their family car and smiles, it will be well worth it.

America’s veterans have been struggling literally for years with sub quality care, outrageous delays, and a bureaucracy that is sickening!

Just when we think that we veterans have finally got a President dedicated to their adequate care, we get another damning report that just blows our minds!

The government internal watchdog agency, the General Accounting Office (GAO), just published its findings from 2013, that found the VA failed to report 90 percent of its doctors who failed to perform or were accused of misconduct

to state and national databases used to alert non-governmental hospitals! In some cases this failure led to subject doctors being dismissed by the VA, rehired by a civilian hospitals only to be disciplined and dismissed yet again!

Obviously, patients were subject to care by these derelict physicians.

A direct quote from the GAO report: “Until the Veterans Administration strengthens oversight and compliance of staff physicians, veteran patients and subsequent civilian patients will be exposed to substandard and unsafe care.” What a shameful condemnation of the VA by a U.S. governmental agency!

These findings were the results of 148 official inquiries 2013 thru 2017. In the cases of 16 separate doctors, the VA waited years beyond the compliant until initiating a review.

Sometimes one has to wonder if it is possible to improve the VA. One giant step toward addressing problem areas would be to modify current regulations that would permit veterans to file suit for serious problems they experience. Did you know, a veteran currently is not allowed to sue for malpractice in a VA facility?

We can and must do better to address VA issues.

The Red Kettle Campaign is the biggest source of funding outside of the thrift store and the support the Salvation Army receives from the United Way. All the money donated through the Red Kettle Campaign stays local, some of which services the community food pantry located at the Alexander City store.

It also helps people in financial crisis keep their utilities on and works to prevent homelessness in the area.

The funds also help the Salvation host Camp Hidden Lake in Lexington, Mississippi free for children and local disaster outreach.

The Alexander City location of the Salvation Army Service Center oversees and coordinates the Salvation Army’s efforts in Tallapoosa, Coosa, Chambers and Randolph counties.

Glassburn said they are still looking for people to ring the bell.

Volunteers are needed and there are sign ups for two-hour time slots. The kettles are manned from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

“It is an easy way for people to sign up,” Glassburn said.

“And of course they can always call. The online system lets volunteers view their schedule and sign up for reminders. It is pretty neat.”

Following that incident, the locks were changed at the church.

• Attendance has dropped drastically at the church.

• Men who were leaders at the church for decades have been “terminated as members” and their names have been taken off the church roll.

Initial reports are that in DeKalb County, Georgia, Vernon faces four local charges including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana – less than an ounce, open container, and giving a false name.

Felony warrants for unlawful imprisonment, kidnapping, armed robbery, theft of a motor vehicle and escape are in place for Vernon in Alabama.

“It’s just a shame that it has gotten to this point,” Jackson said earlier this week. “I spoke to Mitch Gavin who represents the plaintiffs and we had hoped that we could sit down and work something out.

But we are at a point where pride has taken over on both sides and no one is willing to budge. This is not good for anyone, especially the church. Now we are at a point where we will have to wait and see.”

Ware’s answer, filed by Jackson on Nov. 16, claims he is not guilty of any wrongdoing, that the men who initiated the suit were no longer in financial leadership positions as the result of a June 29 meeting of the church, claims the group has now improperly frozen church funds making, it impossible to pay its obligations and shows minutes of a Nov. 1 meeting where the men were “terminated from being members” and they were to be “taken off the church roll.”

As for how, where and under what conditions Vernon was placed inside jail, Franklin said he was being treated with precautions.

“He is deemed obviously an escape risk and will be treated as such,” said Franklin.

Coosa County Sheriff Terry Wilson said Monday that it appears an electrical malfunction may have enabled Shane Anthony Vernon to escape from the Coosa County Jail.

Raymond Caffey and Richard Burton on behalf of the the church was seeking to recover nearly $100,000 that the suit alleged was gained improperly by Ware. The suit claims $32,400 was obtained

by Ware from the Alexander City Housing Authority for housing assistance payments for the years 2006 through 2012 the suit claims was transferred improperly to Ware. The suit also alleges that Ware moved his daughter into that home which is owned by the church in 2006.

The suit alleges that $59,653 for what is described as “money received by (Ware) which was not authorized for personal mortgage payments and other undocumented payments during the period from July 19, 1999 to Dec. 21, 2013,” were also improper.

The initial filing also asked complete records and accounting of charges dating back to 2001 made using a business credit card issued in the church’s name and for the court to determine which set of bylaws are legally the ones by which the church is governed, citing changes made this summer

by Ware to bylaws that have been in place since 1980.

Ware’s answer claims that while the eight men were once authorized to have access to the church accounts, that changed, but the

men were still able to block other church officials from access to the church’s operating account.

Gavin filed a response saying his clients, who are the plaintiffs in the case, deny each and every allegation made in Ware’s answer.

“This whole thing is unfortunate and no question the church is suffering,” Gavin said. “I have talked with Jason (Jackson), but at this point I haven’t heard anything additional since that conversation.

“I can say that my side is willing to sit down and discuss the issues. But that’s where we are.”

No additional court dates have been set in the civil suit.

The issues are even more complicated because there are also still criminal investigations active.

A criminal complaint alleging a pattern of theft similar to what is outlined in the lawsuit. At that time, the Alexander City Police Department asked the Secret Service for assistance due to the long time frame and the detailed nature of the financial information that had to be evaluated. With the change of administration in Washington, the agent who had been handling the case was reassigned and a new agent was set to take over the case.

Friday, Alexander City Police Chief Jay Turner said they are in a holding pattern at this point.

Boater Davis had just finished hunting and was still wearing heavy clothes and boots when the accident happened. To make matters worse, Davis was still recovering from surgery.

“I tried swimming but my heavy winter clothes made that impossible,” Davis said. “I reached up and took hold of the side of the dock but could not lift myself out of the water due to the cold water and the weight of my soaked clothes. Two months prior I had spinal surgery and have lost upper body strength.”

Tidwell heard the commotion.

“Both my wife and I started to scream as I was sinking,” Davis said. “He just came running to help.”

Tidwell was taking his boat out as well.

“I was in the parking lot strapping stuff down when I heard a noise,” Tidwell said. “I heard it and ran to help.”

Tidwell was able to assist Davis by getting down on his stomach and help each Davis around the dock and along the walkway to the dock at DARE Park.

Tidwell, a first year fourth-grade math teacher

at Dadeville even helped Davis along the rocks.

Davis explained he was not wearing a life jacket as they had cleaned at the boat and the only ones on board were stowed away.

“The lesson learned is to always have life jackets,” Davis said.

Davis is thankful Tidwell was nearby.

“I would have died had it not been for him,” Davis said.

Tidwell said he just did what anyone else would have done.

“It is nothing,” Tidwell said. “It is not anything anyone else wouldn’t have done.”

BRHS goes 3-0 at Opelika quad meet STAFF REPORT TPI Staff

After picking up two dominating victories, Benjamin Russell’s wrestling team eked out a thrilling victory over Smiths Station on Thursday night to complete a clean sweep at the Opelika Quad Meet.

Heading into the final bout at 106 pounds, Smiths Station held onto a narrow 36-34 lead and it all came down to the last match. Bobb Charsha pulled out an 8-2 win to earn a victory by decision and clinch the match in favor of the Wildcats (5-4).

The match didn’t start so well for Benjamin Russell, as the Panthers pulled out quick pins in the first two bouts. Peyton Young put the first points of the night on the board with a major decision at 132 over Smiths Station’s Payton Stuck.

The teams traded pins in the next four matches, and Smiths Station build up another lead with victories by fall at 170 and 182. Then Benjamin Russell started to make its comeback.

At 195 pounds, Isaiah Holloway scored a pin in just 1:03 over the Panthers’ Jason Williams, then the Wildcats received a forfeit at 220.

Curtis Norris claimed a second-period pin over Deondrae Williams to set the score at 36-34 before the last bout.

In Benjamin Russell’s other two matches of the night, the Wildcats won 60-24 over Carver-Montgomery and 66-9 against Opelika.

Against Carver, the only victory on the mat for the Wildcats came at 113, where Kyle Mattox pinned Rodrezz Underwood in 5:39. All the other wins for BRHS were awarded by forfeit.

Although Benjamin Russell received three forfeit victories against Opelika, its overpowering win was mostly on the mat. The Wildcats got pins from Young in 0:48 at 132; Saxon Coker in 5:12 at 145; Christopher Lawson in 2:43 at 152; Jy Harvey in 3:35 at 160; Hezekiah Hunter in 2:20 at 170; Conner Burk in 4:55 at 182; Charsha in 0:48 at 106; and Mattox in 0:41 at 113. Holloway and Norris both won by decision at 195 and 285, respectively.

Horseshoe Bend closes out narrow win

With a 38-34 victory over Fayetteville on Thursday night, Horseshoe Bend’s girls basketball remained undefeated on the season.

“I feel good about where we stand after (Thursday’s) game,” Generals coach Erica Meigs said. “It was a good test for them because Fayetteville had a lot of girls left over from last year’s team.”

Horseshoe Bend held a solid lead in the fourth quarter, but a few fouls let Fayetteville climb back into it. But the Generals hit their own free throws to solidify the victory.

“We’ve got some leading to do because we’re so young in how to finish close games,” Meigs said.

Nadia Freeman led the Generals (2-0) with 12 points, and Ivy Vickers followed closely behind with nine.

Jahia Jennings added six points.

Horseshoe Bend’s boys team earned a 57-49 win over the Wolverines to move to 3-2 on the season.

In Dadeville’s season opener, the Tigers swept Holtville. The boys won, 79-50, and the girls earned a 39-4 victory.

Terrell Owens to be inducted in Alabama HOF

Benjamin Russell graduate Terrell Owens has guaranteed himself a spot in at least one Hall of Fame, as the Class of 2018 inductees to the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame were announced Thursday.

After graduating from BRHS, Owens, a wide receiver, played for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He was then drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the 1996 NFL Draft and went on to play for the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals and Seattle Seahwaks. He was a six-time Pro Bowl Selection and holds the No. 2 ranking for career receiving yards in the NFL with 15,934.

During his 16 seasons in the NFL, Owens had five season with 13 or more touchdowns.

The Golden 50th Annual Induction Ceremony and Banquet will take place Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the Sheraton Hotel in Birmingham.

Coosa ‘D’ stifles Vols Central Coosa puts up sweep of Clay Central

Defense was the name of the game for both Central Coosa’s girls and boys basketball teams in a Friday night sweep of Clay Central.

Both games were tight at halftime, but the Cougar defense came alive in the third quarter of the doubleheader. The girls secured a 67-53 victory to move to 2-1 on the season, and the boys earned a 63-57 win to give Jeremy Freeman his first win as head coach.

“That’s a relief,” Freeman said. “I was definitely concerned about that for the guys because I stress the one thing you don’t want to do is get a trend going here.

Once could be a mistake, twice could be shame on you, but three times something is definitely wrong.”

Another similarity between the games was the teams’ star players coming alive in the second half. For the girls, Ryesha Whetstone poured in a staggering 34 points, including 17 in the third quarter alone, and on the boys side, Noel Jones had 29 total points, 17 in the second half.

“Once (Ryesha) got into the motion, she was OK,” Coosa girls coach Syreeta McKinney said. “We had a talk about how she controls the game, the game does not control her. We have to have her present, and at halftime, she already knew how many layups she missed and what she did wrong. That’s the development that I want and what is going to take us far.”

Whetstone wasn’t the only standout for the Coosa girls, either. Although she clearly

had the best offensive presence, Eunique McKinney was all over the court and was rewarded with a triple-double for her efforts. She had 12 points, 11 rebounds and 13 steals.

“She’s like that all the time,” Syreeta McKinney said. “She’s a high-energy type player, and she’s going to go out there and get it starter. That’s how she plays. She’s very athletic, and she’s very coachable. I want her to develop naturally, but there’s still a lot of things she needs to learn to be dynamic.”

All around, Coosa had a strong game on the boards. Shae Suttles also pulled 11 off the glass, and Whetstone finished with eight. Three other players had at least three rebounds.

That wasn’t the same story for the boys team, though. Quin Brooks finished with 12 rebounds, but no other Cougar has more

than seven.

“One thing about (Clay Central) is they’re very, very physical and they’re very long,” Freeman said. “Also, don’t forget that they’re strong, so as the game progresses, they don’t get tired. They like that physicality and that’s not what we want.”

Coosa put three players in double figures. In addition to Jones’ 29, Casson Robbins came off the bench to score 13 and Omar Gaddis had 11. What made the difference in the end for the Cougars was free throw shooting. The Volunteers pulled within three points with 1:11 left, but Coosa went 6-for-7 from the line in the final minute to secure the victory.

“From the first game when we couldn’t make a free throw, we closed the game at the line,” Freeman said. “That’s a testament to them. We really worked on that.”
