Two men were recently apprehended in Millbrook on numerous charges after a high-speed chase that began Tuesday night and ended early Wednesday morning. The Millbrook Police Department arrested Brandon Ellis Mathis, 28, of

Main Street Wetumpka took home numerous awards during the Main Street Alabama Day celebration Thursday night at Lake Point State Park in Eufaula. The organization received the Excellence in Fundraising award for its annual Wine Pull and the Excellence in Placemaking award for its Tulotoma Snail Trail project. Additionally, Main Street Wetumpka named member Joe Champion as the winner of the Community Award for his volunteerism. “We are absolutely thrilled to win these awards,” Main Street Wetumpka Executive Director Jenny Stubbs said. “We know our members have dedicated time and resources to accomplishing much during our first two years, and this recognition makes it that much more rewarding.” Main Street Wetumpka
“It has been the warmest welcome to Wetumpka that I could have ever expected to have,” Weber said. “I’m going to do my best to bring art and bring prosperity to this town.” As a 20-year resident of Wetumpka, Weber said moving the gallery from its original location in Montgomery had been a longtime goal of hers.
Two celebrities made a stop at the River Perk coffee shop to raise money and educate the community about an issue plaguing many military veterans. Former “Headbanger’s Ball” VJ Riki Rachtman, along with “Ink Masters” star Lea Vendetta, paid a visit to River Perk to raise money for Stop Soldier Suicide Thursday afternoon. During Riki’s Ride, Rachtman said he and Vendetta have been touring the country and making stops at different cities and towns in all 48 continental states. The journey is sponsored by Death Wish Coffee, which is sold at River Perk. “He’s doing something that a lot of people won’t do,” River Perk business partner and main barista Savannah Wood said. “It’s pretty awesome what those two are doing.” Rachtman said they were guided to Wetumpka by both Death Wish Coffee and social media suggestions. “We told them we wanted to stop at some of the cool places that sell Death Wish, and they suggested us coming here,” Rachtman said. “Everything has

nternationally-known artist Marcia Weber commemorated the opening of her art gallery, Marcia Weber Art Objects, in downtown Wetumpka during a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday, and open house events on Friday and Saturday.
The Wetumpka Rotary Club hosted Auburn University President Steven Leith at the Wind Creek Casino and Hotel during a recent meeting. Leith gave a presentation before answering questions from community members.
