Bond reduction denied for incest suspect

‘Thrilled for the turnout’

By AMALIA KORTRIGHT Bureau Chief

A request for the bond reduction of an Eclectic incest suspect was denied by Elmore County District Court Judge Glenn Goggans following an Aug. 14 bond hearing. Defense attorney Kammie B. Lee initially submitted a request to reduce or amend the $150,000 bond of 41-yearold Ricky Winston Smith Jr., who lists an address on Lindsey Road, on July 26. The motion filed by Lee did not specify the Smith bond amount they were aiming for, but did state Smith was not a flight risk or a danger to the community. Smith was arrested and charged by the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office on July 9, after the conclusion of a weeks-long investigation conducted by the sheriff’s office. Court documents identified the victim as a juvenile who is related to Smith. Incest is a Class C felony, which can be penalized by up to a decade in prison and up to $15,000 in fines. On the day of the bond hearing, Smith’s case was waived to an Elmore County grand jury. As of Aug. 21, Smith remained in the Elmore County Jail.

and tore down a strand of power lines. Because the lines were live when they got here, Wood said they had to wait for them to be neutralized before they could rescue three people from the vehicle. Wood said two of the victims suffered from moderate injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals, while the third only sustained a few scratches. The EFD credited the Santuck Fire Department, the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office, the Eclectic Police Department and Alabama Power for their assistance in handling the wreck.
