Normally the residents of the Burger King Breakfast Club in Alexander City are used to chewing the fat amongst themselves and sometimes with local representatives like State Senator Tom Whatley and State Representative Mark Tuggle. Some across the country think, what could a small town do to change the political picture in Washington, D.C.? But that did not deter Congressman Mo Brooks as he stopped in Alexander City Tuesday morning, shaking hands and talking

When the Alexander City City Council approved a move in June that would allow city workers and equipment to help remove old and non-complying signage and structures from private property, it was unclear the impact the program may have. Alexander City Community Development Director Al Jones said that already about 40 locations have been helped by the program. Some city labor and use of equipment has been involved in the process, but Jones said there has been almost no cash outlay to accomplish what he called “remarkable results.” “This is a program that has been totally voluntary,” Jones said. “In reality it’s a winwin.
