Three Dadeville residents were arrested Thursday after a search of a residence found meth, regular and synthetic marijuana and prescription drugs. The Tallapoosa McCormick County Narcotics Task Force, Chambers County Drug Task Force and K-9 Unit, Alexander City Housing Authority and the Alexander City Police Department executed a search warrant at a residence off Booger Hollow Beck Road in Dadeville Thursday. “Investigators had received numerous complaints of illegal narcotic activity taking place at this location,” Sgt. Fred White of the Tallapoosa County Buchanan Narcotics Task Force said. “After weeks of surveillance and traffic stops, investigators were able to develop enough probable cause and obtain a warrant.” White said during a search of the suspected “trap house,” investigators recovered about 30 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 50 grams of See ARRESTS • Page 3

Hundreds of people gathered at Vulcan Park for the solar eclipse Monday, armed with special glasses to view this rare happening. But Jeffrey Payne, 27, had other plans. As the eclipse reached its full effect over Birmingham, people clapped and

cheered. One family stretched in a line on the grass wearing their eclipse glasses. Another family stood there in awe. Millions across the country peeked upward, from Oregon to South Carolina, for the once-in-a-lifetime event. But Payne’s knees were shaking, excited for what could be his own oncein-a-lifetime event. Alexander City Police Department Chief Jay Turner said that despite nonstop efforts to locate a Georgia man who went missing in Lake Martin while swimming Monday evening, teams had come up empty as of 7 p.m. Teams searched throughout the night and all day Thursday. One boat planned to be on the water all night Thursday and into Friday morning before hitting the lake at daylight with a large contingent of teams. Turner said the 42-year-old man had no known health problems and was physically fit, but at about 6 p.m. Monday, the pontoon he and four others were in was parked in a part of the north end of the lake near Camp ASCCA swimming. Squirrel causes power outage in Dadeville By CLIFF WILLIAMS Staff Writer

Some might think Dadeville had a visitor from outer space light years away after what some might call crop circles appeared on Spring Street Thursday morning. The incident downed power lines causing local businesses to lose power. Even Highway 280 was closed for a while as Alabama Power corrected the issue. Witnesses said smoke was visible in the area.
