Faith Christian Academy closing After the announcement of Faith Christian Academy’s closing, parents are searching for a solution.

Work on Sportplex bridge to begin on Monday By MITCH SNEED Editor
A big project that will increase the safety and maneuverability of a bridge that is used regularly is set to begin Monday. The Alexander City Public Works Department announced Wednesday that Sportplex Boulevard inside the Charles E. Bailey Sportplex will be closed at the bridge, from the Senior Center to the coaches’ parking lot, beginning Monday. Officials said the road will remain n closed until the bridge replacement is completed. Youth baseball and softball season is beginning, so those who will be coming to the park k should plan ahead. Alexander City Public Works Director and City Engineer Gerard Brewer said that those who are coming to the Sportplex should consider the area that they will be going to and use the appropriate entrance. The widest accessibility would be available from the Elkahatchee Road entrance. The project was made possible by ALDOT using grant funds from the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program. The grant funds come with a city match, will help replace a bridge that is not as wide as the road leading up to it and is not rated for traffic like buses that often travel through the park. “It’s badly needed,” Brewer said at the time the grant was finalized. “When that was built, it was done like an old farm bridge would be See SPORTPLEX • Page 9
